  • John H. Weitendorf, Sr.

The Weitendorf Agricultural Education Center has been made possible through the generous donation of John H. Weitendorf, Sr., a 1942 Joliet Junior College alumnus.

The center was conceived to enhance educational opportunities found within Joliet Junior College's Agricultural, Horticultural, and Veterinary Medical Technology Departments for faculty, students, and the Joliet community. The facility was necessitated by the lack of suitable facilities at the Main Campus.

Successful realization of the mission of these departments, and the community college system as a whole, requires that institutions provide the most current information and experiences to all those in need, regardless of their financial or social status. We strive to reach that realization, but are often limited by the depth of financial commitment from the public education system.

The generosity and commitment of private companies and individuals with a common interest in the advancement of the agriculture industry will bring us closer to achieving the goals and objectives shared by all in this most important and vital field of agriculture.

John Weitendorf dedicated his real estate business to helping area farmers secure land to pursue their dreams. Now, the center that bears his name will assist the college as it educates future generations in agriculture.

The Weitendorf Agricultural Education Center is located on 32 acres of land donated in 1999 to the JJC Foundation by Weitendorf. The center officially opened its doors in June 2007. While students, faculty, and the community of Joliet Junior College enjoy this educational resource, it also serves as a reminder of John Weitendorf's generosity and the longstanding tradition of JJC alumni contributing to the educational mission of the college.

Interested donors can inquire about naming opportunities at the Weitendorf Agricultural Education Center by contacting Kristin Mulvey, Executive Director of the JJC Foundation, by calling (815) 280-2353 or visiting the JJC Foundation page.

  • William B. Johnson Arena

Joliet Junior College dedicated the Weitendorf Agricultural Education Center as the "William B. Johnson Arena" on May 24, 2018 at the celebration of Bill's life. This dedication was made in memory of Bill's 50 years of teaching agricultural sciences, to honor his generous donations to the college, and to recognize the tremendous impact he had on generations of agricultural students and the agriculture community.

The JJC Foundation has established the William B. Johnson Memorial Agriculture Scholarship. Donations toward the scholarship will be accepted at the memorial event, online at www.jjc.edu/givetojjc or by check made payable to: JJC Foundation, 1215 Houbolt Road, Joliet, IL 60431.
