About Our Program

JJC's Veterinary Medical Technology program allows students to gain hands-on experience with real animals from local shelters. Cats and dogs are brought to campus each semester, where they are cared for by students and faculty, until they are adopted out to good homes.

The program is fully accredited by the Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). Upon completion of the VMTP, graduates are eligible to take the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) for licensure in Illinois.

About Our Animals

Partnering with local animal shelters to provide quality and compassionate veterinary care, JJC students and faculty are dedicated to improving the health and well-being of homeless animals each semester. Prior to finding their "furr-ever" home, at JJC, animals are:

  • Spayed/Neutered
  • Vaccinated
  • De-wormed
  • Microchipped
  • Administered heartworm/flea & tick prevention

Students and faculty use low-stress handling and basic training techniques along with an enrichment program to make each animal's stay as comfortable as possible. JJC maintains a high standard of animal welfare and veterinary care.

Animals for Adoption

  • Cats

    Capri

1 year old | FEMALE | Brown Tabby

Capri's shy at first, but once you give her some attention, she turns into a big lovebug. Her favorite things to do include exploring her surroundings, lifting her paws to tap on objects to make sure they won't jump back at her and reaching out to people in hopes of receiving cuddles and getting to know how to play with other cats.

    Cedar

    8M | MALE | Orange/White Tabby

A playful kitten, he loves any kind of interactive toys you can play with him. He likes to chase feather toys and catch rolling toys, but his favorite way to play is with his friend Diego! He tolerates being held for short periods of time but would rather be on the ground playing. However, once he's sleepy from all the playing, he will usually lay next to you to enjoy pets and belly rubs.

    LaLa (Adopted)

    6M | FEMALE | Gray Tabby

This curious and energetic girl is constantly looking at her surroundings for new things to explore. She does enjoy cuddles — but not for too long. She's got to see what crazy adventures she can get into next!

    Rhonda (Adoption Pending)

    1 year old | MALE | Tuxedo

This girl is loud, proud and ready to find her furever home! She is one of the most playful kittens here and is looking for someone to match her chaotic energy! While she loves people, she's a little bit picky with her feline friends, so slow introductions to house mates are recommended. If you're looking for a fun and curious companion to keep you entertained, she's your girl!

    Pheasant

2 years old | MALE | Gray Tabby

A calm boy, he loves to spend his time snuggling and simply watching the world go by. He can be a little shy at first, but when he gets comfortable enough, his loving personality shines through.

    Starling (Adoption Pending)

2 years old | FEMALE | Domestic Shorthair

For this gentle girl, loud noises and crowds can be scary. Despite her demeanor, with a little patience, she will run to your side for warmth and company! She loves to sit on soft blankets and would be happy to sit by your side and watch the world go by — especially if birdwatching is involved!

    Raven (Adoption Pending)

6 years old | MALE | Domestic Shorthair

This guy's a very shy man, but once he warms up to you, he will not stop headbutting you for pets! He loves to eat treats but adores cuddles more. He's a sweet boy, but crowds and loud noises can be scary. He would much rather spend his time comfy by your side!

    Cali

1 year old | FEMALE | Brown Tabby

Cali's a calm, sweet girl who loves to spend her time snuggling and just watching the world go by. She's a little shy at first, but her loving personality shines through once she gets comfortable enough!

    Autumn

    6M | FEMALE | Orange Tabby

This sweet, loving and very playful kitty can be a little shy at first. But once she gets to know you, Autumn is quite the lovebug! From enjoying a feather toy play session to cuddling up after a long day, she'd love to be your companion through it all!

    Diego (Adoption Pending)

    6M | MALE | Brown Tabby

A playful and affectionate kitten, he enjoys wandering around, especially when yummy treats are to be found. Diego is always ready to greet you with a gentle purr. He adores p=being petted and will reward you with cuddles and affection.

    Indy

1 year old | FEMALE | Domestic Shorthair

This very playful kitten is curious and energetic, always looking at her surroundings for new things to explore. She enjoys cuddles — but not for too long! Indie's got to see what adventures she can get into next.

    Note

Please note, we do not do cross-species testing unless requested. Animal behavior information is based on interactions with staff and students. All animals in Joliet Junior College’s care will be spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, Heartworm or FeLV/FIV tested, administered Flea/Tick and Heartworm prevention monthly, have intestinal parasite testing and treatment, and presurgical/wellness bloodwork run prior to adoption.

It is our policy to make certain that each person who adopts a pet is aware of the responsibilities of pet guardianship and is capable of and willing to accept those responsibilities morally, physically and financially. Not every person who desires to adopt a pet should do so. By completing our adoption form and questionnaire, you will aid us in determining if you and your family are indeed ready for pet guardianship, and if the pet of your interest would suit you and your lifestyle. Should you agree that adopting a pet is a commitment throughout the lifetime of your companion animal, please fill out our adoption application form and questionnaire.
