 IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING COMMUNICATION FOR 2012-2013 YEAR FROM THE FINANCIAL AID/VETERANS OFFICE

All correspondence will be conducted utilizing eResources and JJC student email account. It is important that you check eResources and your JJC student email account frequently so you do not miss any pertinent information.

Information that will be sent electronically includes: Missing Information Notifications, Award Notifications, and Standard of Academic Progress Notifications.

If you do not have a JJC student email account, please complete an online Admission application at www.jjc.edu. If you have been assigned an email account, but do not know your username and password, go to www.jjc.edu and click on the Check Email icon for assistance. Additionally, you may see current missing information status on eResources, www.jjc.edu, by clicking on "My Documents".
                        

Summer 2012 Semester
Please note that all requested information for Summer 2012 must be submitted to the JJC financial aid office by APRIL 11, 2012  to insure processing completion before payment due date. Students that are unable to meet the April 11, 2012 deadline are encouraged to complete their financial aid file, but are responsible for payment of their classes by the payment due date.

Fall 2012 Semester
Requested information for Fall 2012 must be submitted to the JJC Financial Aid/Veterans Office by JUNE 13, 2012

to insure processing completion before payment due date. Students that are unable to meet the June 13, 2012 deadline are encouraged to complete their financial aid file, but are responsible for payment of their classes by the payment due date.

2012-2013 CHANGE TO VERIFICATION PROCESS FOR FINANCIAL AID

If you did not use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool when you submitted your FAFSA, you must request a copy of your IRS Tax Return Transcripts. Here's how:

REQUESTING BY PHONE:
1. Call the IRS at 800-908-9946.

2. Follow prompts to enter 
Social Security number and numbers of the street address as it appears on the most recent tax return filed with the IRS.

3. Select option two to request the Tax Return transcript and appropriate year.

4. The IRS will mail a paper copy within 5-10 days.

5. Bring it to the  Joliet Junior College Financial Aid/Veterans Office.

ONLINE REQUEST:
1. Go to irs.gov.

2. Under "Tools", click on Order a Return or Account Transcript.

3. You will need your Social Security number, date of birth, and the street address used on the most recent tax return filed with the IRS. (Please note that even a slight variation in the address, such as "St." instead of "Street", can result in an unsuccessful request.)

4. Click on "Order a Transript" and fill in the required information.

5. Click Continue.

6. Select "Return Transcript" and the appropriate tax year.

7. Click Continue.

8. A confirmation message appears.

9. The IRS will mail a paper copy within 5-10 days.

10. Bring it to the Joliet Junior College Financial Aid/Veterans Office.
 

Already submitted the FAFSA?

Once the results of your FAFSA have been received by our office, you will be able to log in to eResources to access information regarding your financial aid file. 

Verification policy and procedures

Any student may be selected for verification by the federal government or the Financial Aid Office. At Joliet Junior College all students selected for verification are required to submit documentation in order for this process to be completed. The verification process allows JJC Financial Aid/Veterans Office to review the information reported on the FAFSA, checking for accuracy against documents provided by you.

 For 2011-2012:

If you are selected for verification, you must a submit a signed copy of your federal 1040 tax form as well as a completed Verification Worksheet (provided by the JJC Financial Aid/Veterans Office) If you are a dependent student, a signed copy of your parents' federal 1040 tax form must also be submitted and your parents must complete and sign the Verification Worksheet. If you are married, your spouse's federal 1040 tax form must be submitted and your spouse must also complete the Verification Worksheet. All documents must be  submitted to the JJC Financial Aid/Veterans Office. Additonal documents may be needed once a Financial Aid Advisor begins to process your file, if this is the case you will be notified. If you are selected for verification, the documents required must be recieved must be recieved before an actual financial aid award can be issued.

If you have not received the results of your FAFSA application, check the FAFSA Web site or call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at (800) 433-3243.

Financial Aid consists of federal and state grants.

These grants are need-based and awarded based on student eligibility. Federal student loans are a type of financial aid and are available to all students who have completed a FAFSA. Students may also be awarded College Work Study for on- and off-campus employment opportunities.

When will SUMMER 2012 aid be applied to my account?

If you have any questions concerning aid applied to your account, please contact the JJC Financial Aid/Veterans Office at (815) 280-2528, or the JJC Veterans Office at (815) 280-2623.

Pell Grant, MAP Grant

Applied to Student's Summer Account:(Approximately) May 11, 2012

If you have received an award letter listing Pell or MAP grant, your classes will be not be dropped for non-payment at this time. After your funds are applied to your account approximately 5/11/2012, you would then be responsible for any remaining balance.

Student Loans

Applied to Student's Summer Account: Approx. the last week in July 2012

If you have returned a signed award letter accepting student loan funds listed, and completed a promissory note, either in a prior JJC semester, or on-line, a hold will be placed on you tuition balance until student loans are disbursed after 30 days into the semester.

Veterans Education Benefits

Veterans Education Benefits include Illinois Veterans Grant, National Guard Grant, and MIA/POW Scholarships. Please contact the JJC Veterans Office to request your benefits be applied, if you have not yet done so for Spring 2012. You are responsible for payment of fees that are not covered by your benefits.

FEDERAL WORK STUDY (FWS)

  • See the student employment page for more information on employment options and procedures.
  • Based on EFC and enrolled in 6 credit hours.
  • Priority date is May 1, 2012. Students who have complete files and financial need by this date are first considerations.
  • Paid every two weeks in conjunction with the regular college payroll.

Student Self Service
The Student Self Service site will enable students who have been authenticated through JJC eResources to have direct access to perform a range of activities, including:

  • View electronic deferments or
    notification forms sent to student lenders.
  • Print proof of enrollment verification certificates.
  • View real time loan information.
  • View enrollment information held by the Clearinghouse provided by JJC.
