Alumni Relations

JJC Alumni Association President Carletta Seay

Welcome

Dear Alumni and Friends,

Joliet Junior College Alumni Relations was founded in 1970 to foster stronger relationships with alumni, students, faculty, and the community. JJC's alumni and friends have given back to the college in many meaningful ways, including volunteerism, ambassadorship and financial support of the nation's first public community college.

We have embarked on an extraordinary journey. In 2006, we chartered Students and Alumni United to increase awareness for JJC Alumni Relations and foster interaction between students and alumni to create a stronger affinity for JJC.

In 2007, the alumni board worked with Julie Allsopp, gift and scholarship specialist, to assist JJC students with the application process for scholarships and developed the annual JJC Scholarship Application event. Approximately 250 students who reside both in and out of District 525 received assistance at this event.

In 2008, we gained a presence on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. The office of Alumni Relations hosted its first Alumni reception for Employees of JJC. Did you know that we have over 100 employees who are alums? I think this is wonderful evidence of the commitment of our alumni as stakeholders!

In 2009 we garnered increased Alumni Benefits, increased internal collaboration with Student Activities and Career Services to develop stronger relationships and cultivate the idea of students being "Alumni in Residence." Students benefited from the Alumni Success Stories Series and a leadership workshop. As with any endeavor, we realized that we are better together.

Each year we renew our friendships and strengthen loyalty for the college at our annual Alumni Brunch.  Richard Brandolino ('59) received the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award. Richard also serves as board member to the JJC Foundation. Our Susan H. Wood inductee was J. D. Ross, retired JJC president and current Executive Director of the Will Grundy Medical Clinic. The JJC Student Alumni Association also honored Tammy Perkins, assistant professor, JJC Fine Arts Department. The Prestige Award honors faculty members for their extraordinary service to the college.

Please join us as we continue our journey. If you do not receive the JJC Connections magazine you can view a PDF at Connections. We invite you to share your news with us by visiting the Stay in Touch page. We hope that you will maintain or renew your relationship with JJC. Please call Kelly Myers at 815-280-2218 if you would like to learn more about becoming involved at your alma mater.
