Tony Award winning Broadway Producer Douglas L. Meyer will speak to students and community members about his career in theatre on Monday, September 17 at 7 p.m. in Joliet Junior College’s Black Box Theatre, on the Main Campus at 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet. The event is free to the public.
Meyer, who received his Tony Awards after producing “Hairspray” in 2003 and “The Producers” in 2001, also produced Broadway works such as “Lucky Guy,” starring Tom Hanks in 2013, “Leap of Faith,” “Legally Blonde,” and “The Wedding Singer.”
“I think it’s wonderful that we can get someone who is successful in the professional theatre world and that he can take time from his busy schedule to speak to us about his experiences,” said Nicki Blowers, JJC technical supervisor of the theatre. “It’s very valuable to talk to other people and make connections. Doug Meyer’s work ethic is great example for our students.”
This is the third time JJC has had the opportunity to have Meyer speak. He will talk about his career and what it’s like producing Broadway musicals for the past 20 years. Currently, he is working on a musical version of “Bull Durham”. At the end of his talk, he will answer questions from the audience.
“This event has the potential to inspire students to reach their professional goals, but also give them some insights on the realities of how to achieve that success,” Blowers said.
