The Joliet Junior College women’s soccer team is currently on a two game winning streak with two games remaining in the regular season. The Lady Wolves will look to finish strong in preparation for the Region IV Tournament where you want to be playing your best soccer.
The Lady Wolves won their second game in a row on Oct. 7, defeating N4C conference opponent Triton College 3-1 in River Grove. Freshman Defender Sara Bock scored 2 goals for the Lady Wolves and freshman midfielder Yolanda Frederick scored the other goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Michelle Del Sarto made 11 saves and stopped 2 penalty kicks for the Lady Wolves who improved to 4-9-1 overall and 1-5 in the N4C.
"The biggest struggle for us has been incorporating a majority of new players with just a few veterans, and the reassigning of positions due to season ending injuries," said head coach Gino Di Nardo.
The Lady Wolves snapped a two-game losing streak on Oct. 5 shutting out South Suburban College 3-0 in Joliet. Bock, Frederick and Courtney Divita scored goals for JJC.
Frederick, Sarah Garcia and Mary Grace Leinweber had assists. Goalkeeper Del Sarto made 7 saves and recorded her third shutout of the season.
Del Sarto has done a little bit of everything for the Lady Wolves this season. She has totaled 139 saves for the year, just 13 shy of her school record of 152 which she set last year.
On Sept. 19, she scored the Lady Wolves lone goal on a penalty kick in a 1-1 tie after two overtimes. She also had 16 saves in the contest. She is also tied for the team-high in assists with two, along with Leinweber.
Bock is leading the team in goals with five and Frederick is second with three goals.
"Our final two games are against opponents we have not met before and I am quite sure the girls are up for the challenge," said Di Nardo. "Certainly two victories would be ideal but regardless of the outcome I would like to see the team’s attitude remain high and use this new experience to ready us for our first playoff game at the end of the month."
The Lady Wolves will wrap up the season at home against Daley College on Oct. 15. Game-time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
