Black Student Union

African Dance Instruction event

The Black Student Union (BSU) acts in a concerted effort to better understand the cultural, political, social, and economic status of the African-American student. As such, its members work toward sponsoring programs, activities, and ideals that support the union’s goal of promoting Black culture through educational, cultural, and social events.

BSU recognizes the plight of the African-American student, specifically the male students in the population, needs to be addressed and brought to the forefront of Joliet Junior College’s community. Therefore, we will present speakers, attend workshops, and sponsor activities that encourage and recognize academic excellence while simultaneously highlighting political and economic issues that impact the African-American student.

Given that, BSU also is concerned with the entire student population and its diversity. BSU is here to be of service to the minds and bodies of the entire Joliet community—on-and off-campus. All bold, bright, and brave students can unite under the club to act in a concerted effort to improve multiculturalism at JJC and all the issues and concerns that lie within that term in the new millennium. Help BSU achieve that goal by attending a meeting/BSU sponsored function.
