The 2014 season will be Dr. McCarthy's ninth season with the Joliet Junior College cross country team.
Coach McCarthy has had 18 runners qualify for the NJCAA Division III National Championship in his time at JJC.
In 2012, Coach McCarthy led the women's team to back-to-back Region IV championships. Claudia Davila finished 2nd at the NJCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championship and earned 1st team All-American honors. She is the first two-time All-American in the history of the JJC cross country program. Sam Froemel earned a 6th place finish at the NJCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championship, where he earned 2nd team All-American honors.
Dr. McCarthy is a graduate of the National College of Chiropractic. He is currently practicing in Homer Glen, Illinois, where he treats and trains to variety of endurance athletes.
Dr. McCarthy has taught for Joliet Junior College and Moraine Valley Community College in the past, teaching a variety of courses ranging from Human Anatomy and Physiology to Nutrition. Dr. McCarthy holds a National Strength and Conditioning Certification and is also a USAT Triathlon Certified Coach.
He is an avid runner and triathlete, competing in events ranging from 5k’s to Iron Man triathlons. Dr. McCarthy and his wife, Vicki, reside in Homer Glen, IL. They have one daughter, Lilian and one son, Landon.
