Wolves win season opener against McHenry

The Joliet Junior College baseball team picked up their first win of the 2011 season with a 7-1 victory against McHenry County College. Ryan McMahon, Tim Meyer, and Bryan Davis (2B) all had two hits. Jay Modelski added 2 RBI's in the contest. Sophomore Brett Evak earned his first win on the mound for the Wolves. He pitched for 7 innings, while striking out six. JJC (1-0 overall) travels to St. Louis Community College-Meramec on Saturday, March 5, 2011. Game time is 12:00 pm.

Bonarigo lifts Wolves to victory

The JJC baseball team defeated Triton College by a score of 3-2. With a 2-2 score in the bottom of the 9th, Rick Gazarek led off with a single. Pinch-hitter Nick Bonarigo singled in Gazarek to put the Wolves on top. Ryan McMahon went 2-for-3 with a double in the contest. Winning pitcher was Justin Troyner, who struck out both batters that he faced in the top of the 9th. Edgar Silva was the starter who struck out 5 in four innings of work. Brett Evak pitched a solid 4 1/3 innings of relief, while striking out three. JJC (2-0 overall) hosts Moraine Valley Community College on Friday, March 11, 2011. Game time is 2:30 pm.

The Joliet Junior College baseball team topped Moraine Valley Community College by a score of 4-2. Thomas Keating (2B) and Chad Carlson (2B, RBI) both went 2-for-4 in the contest. Jay Modelski also doubled for the Wolves. Josh Kwasny picked up the win on the mound. In 5 innings of work, he struck out three and gave up only two hits. The JJC baseball team defeated Carl Sandburg College by a score of 20-10. Chris Welch (2B, 3B, 4 RBI's) and Russell Coyner (2B, 2 RBI's) had three hits each. Dan Eliopulos, Trey Russell, Chad Carlson, Cole Judy, and Mark Kasper all had two hits. Winning pitcher was Alex Parks, while Justin Troyner picked up the save. The Joliet Junior College baseball team earned their 5th straight victory with a 17-7 decision over Volunteer State Community College. Bryan Davis (2B, 2 RBI's), Tim Meyer (3 RBI's), Mark Kasper (2 RBI's), and Russell Coyner (3 RBI's) all had two hits each. Dennis Beauregard was the winning pitcher for the Wolves striking out four. JJC (5-0 overall) will continue their Tennessee spring trip with another visit to Volunteer State Community College on Tuesday, March 15, 2011. Game time is 1:00 pm.

The JJC baseball team dropped a pair of games to Volunteer State Community College (TN). In game one, the Wolves lost by a score of 1-0. Trey Russell went 2-for-3 in the contest. Brett Evak pitched 6 2/3 innings while striking out six. In game two, Volunteer defeated JJC by a score of 11-1. Bryan Davis had an RBI double for the Wolves. Edgar Silva received the pitching loss working for 3 innings and striking out five. JJC (5-2 overall) travels to Columbia State Community College on the second leg of their annual spring trip on Wednesday, March 16, 2011. Game time is 1:00 pm.

The Joliet Junior College baseball team fell to Columbia State Community College (TN) in a twinbill. In game one, Columbia State topped the Wolves by a 9-2 score. Tim Meyer went 2-for-3, while Thomas Keating had a 2 RBI single. Matt Fine was handed the loss in 5 1/3 innings pitched. In game two, JJC was shut out by a 10-0 score. Tim Meyer went 2-for-2 with a double. Josh Kwasny received the pitching loss in his 3 1/3 innings on the mound. JJC (5-4 overall) wraps up their final day of their spring trip with another game at Columbia State Community College. Game time is 2:00 pm.

The JJC baseball team was defeated by Columbia State Community College (TN) by a score of 18-12. Tim Meyer led the offense with 4 hits including two doubles and two RBI's. Denzel Smith (RBI), Thomas Keating (2B, 4 RBI's), and Mark Kasper (3B) all had two hits each. Kevin Davis also doubled for Joliet. Ethan Johnson took the pitching loss for the Wolves. The Joliet Junior College baseball team earned a split decision against Region IV opponent Morton College. In game one, Morton topped the Wolves with a 10-3 score. Dan Eliopulos and Jay Modelski had two hits each. Ryan McMahon doubled in the contest. Brett Evak received the pitching loss for Joliet. In game two, the Wolves edged out Morton by a 3-2 score. Rick Gazarek, Jay Modelski, Thomas Keating, and Cole Judy had one hit each. Dennis Beauregard pitched 6 innings, while striking out eight. The Joliet Junior College baseball team defeated South Suburban College by a score of 8-7. The Wolves tied it up in the bottom of the 7th and would score one more in the 8th to hold on for the win. Thomas Keating (2B, 3B, 5 RBI's), Dan Eliopulos (2B, 3 RBI's), Jay Modelski (doubled twice, RBI), and Trey Russell (doubled twice, 2 RBI's) all had two hits each. The JJC baseball team finished in a split decision against N4C conference opponent Triton College. In game one, Triton held off the Wolves for a 13-12 victory. Taylor Olson led the way going 4-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI's. Thomas Keating had three hits including a double, triple, and home run totaling 4 RBI's. Brian Davis had three hits, while Chris Welch finished with two hits. Trey Russell homered for the Wolves. In game two, JJC won by a score of 23-14. Trey Russell went 5-for-5 with four doubles and 5 RBI's. Mark Kasper had four hits and 2 RBI's, as Rick Gazarek had three hits (2B, HR, 2 RBI's). Ryan McMahon doubled twice, Bryan Davis doubled and homered with 7 RBI's on the day, and Thomas Keating had two hits (HR, RBI). Matt Fine earned the victory in his 4 1/3 innings pitched. In game two, JJC defeated Rock Valley by a 14-4 score. Jay Modelski had three hits, followed by Chris Welch, Thomas Keating, Ryan McMahon, Bryan Davis, Trey Russell, Tim Meyer, and Dan Eliopulos with two hits each. Matt Fine was the game winner on the hill for the Wolves. He pitched for 5 innings and struck out three batters. JJC (35-21 overall, 7-5 N4C) opens up Region IV Division III tournament play at home on Thursday, May 12, 2011. The Wolves take on the College of DuPage at 10:00 am.

Wolves get by DuPage in playoffs

The JJC baseball team defeated the College of DuPage by a score of 8-3 in the opening round of the Region IV Division III Championship Tournament. Tim Meyer (2 RBI's) and Thomas Keating (2B, RBI) both had two hits. Taylor Olson finished with 2 RBI's in the contest. Chris Skiniotes picked up the win for the Wolves after coming in for 3 innings of relief. He struck out 6, while only giving up one hit. Edgar Silva and Ethan Johnson combined for 8 strikeouts on the mound as well. JJC (36-21 overall) continues tournament play on Friday, May 13, 2011. Game time is 1:00 pm vs. Harper College.

The Joliet Junior College baseball team defeated Harper College by a score of 9-3 in the next round of the Region IV Division III Championship Tournament. Ryan McMahon led the way with three hits (2B, 2 RBI's). Taylor Olson (2B, RBI), Chris Welch, Thomas Keating (3B, RBI). Dan Eliopulos (RBI), and Jay Modelski all had two hits. Dennis Beauregard was the winning pitcher with 6 strikeouts. JJC (37-21 overall) continues tournament play on Saturday, May 14, 2011. Game time is 1:00 pm vs. Waubonsee Community College.

Wolves late effort leads them past Waubonsee

The JJC baseball team defeated Waubonsee Community College by a score of 12-11 to advance to the Region IV Division III Championship. The Wolves were down 11-5 going into the bottom of the 8th inning. JJC scored four runs in the 8th and three more runs in the 9th to put them on top. Thomas Keating came up big for the Wolves going 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, and 6 RBI's. Tim Meyer had three hits, while Taylor Olson (3B), Rick Gazarek, Bryan Davis (3B, RBI), and Dan Eliopulos had three hits each. Alex Parks received the pitching win for Joliet. He struck out two batters in two innings pitched. Brett Evak pitched 5 2/3 innings of relief striking out four. JJC (38-21 overall) will face Waubonsee Community College in the Region IV Championship game on Sunday, May 15, 2011. Game time is 12:00 pm.

Wolves are Texas bound!

The Joliet Junior College baseball team defeated Waubonsee Community College in a thrilling 11-10 victory in eleven innings to claim the Region IV Division III Championship. The winning run came on a bases loaded error from a Taylor Olson hit to the shortstop. Ryan McMahon, who singled in the 11th, scored the game winner. Thomas Keating went 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI's, followed by Taylor Olson with a single, double, and a triple with 2 RBI's. Ryan McMahon also collected three hits including a double and two RBI's. Justin Troyner was the winning pitcher for the Wolves. Thomas Keating was named Region IV Division III  Championship MVP and Wayne L. King, Jr. was named Region IV Division III Coach of the Year. JJC (39-21) overall will face Westmoreland County Community College (PA) in the opening round of the NJCAA Division III World Series on Saturday, May 21, 2011. Game time is 12:00 pm.

The JJC baseball team defeated Westmoreland County Community College (PA) by a score of 7-4. Bryan Davis had two hits and two RBI's, while Thomas Keating hit a 2 RBI double. Ethan Johnson picked up the win on the mound for the Wolves. He struck out four in his 5 2/3 innings pitched. JJC (40-21 overall) faces Gloucester Community College (NJ) on Sunday, May 22, 2011. Game time is 4:00 pm.

The Joliet Junior College baseball team fell to Gloucester Community College (NJ) by a 7-3 score. Jay Modelski doubled, while Thomas Keating, Bryan Davis, and Rick Gazarek all had singles for the Wolves. JJC (40-22 overall) takes on Eastfield College (TX) on Monday, May 23, 2011. Game time is 12:00 pm.

Wolves take 6th place at NJCAA Division III World Series

The JJC baseball team dropped a 5-3 decision to Eastfield College (TX) in their final game of the NJCAA Division III World Series. Thomas Keating led the offense with 2 hits. Rick Gazarek hit a triple for the Wolves. JJC finishes their season with a 40-23 overal record and a 7-5 N4C conference record.
