COMPASS and ASSET Placement Testing
Joliet Junior College offers two options for placement testing. The COMPASS test, which is computerized and offered through Academic Skills Center, and the ASSET test, which is a traditional pencil and paper test. It is recommended that all students with disabilities take the COMPASS test in two sections or sessions instead of taking the entire test at one sitting (three sections or sessions for students with Attention Deficit Disorder).
Appointments for accommodations from the Academic Skills Center can be made by calling (815) 280-2230 or by email at kstrysik@jjc.edu
Guidelines For Students With Disabilities
- Visual Impairments
- Students who are visually impaired may take the COMPASS test. If an alternative format is preferred, the ASSET test is available in large print, braille, and audiocassestte format.
- Physical Disability
- Students who have limited upper mobility may choose to take the COMPASS test using a trackball with a computer in the Academic Skills center (J2013), or they may choose to take the ASSET test with a scribing service. The student needs to make an appointment with Star for scribing services.
