Hi, my name is Laure Bruns. I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with your child(ren). I wanted to take a minute and share some of my background and experiences with you. Originally, I am from San Francisco, California. I moved to the Chicago land area in 1999 to finish my bachelor's degree at Elmhurst College. I currently live in Joliet Illinois with my husband and two children.
As a family, we enjoy outdoor activities such as camping, boating, fishing and swimming. We enjoy playing in the snow and hope to take up skiing soon. I have an extensive background working with children. I first started working with children in high school as a swim instructor and lifeguard. I quickly realized how much I loved being around young children and designed my educational goals around them.
I have a bachelor's degree in psychology with an emphasis on child psychology and a master's of education degree with a K-12 teaching certificate. Professionally, I have worked in both formal (school) and informal (home) settings since 1993. These experiences include working at the YMCA, being a nanny, owing a DCFS licensed home based day care, and teaching kindergarten. I truly believe that children are amazing. They see the world as a place of endless opportunity and delight. It is through their purposeful play that this truth rings true. I feel that by working with children I truly am helping to make this world a better place. In a child's eyes, the world is their canvas and they are the artists. It is my goal as an educator to open my students' world up to experiences, embrace individuality, model cooperation, foster a love of diversity, and most importantly have fun! I believe that students learn best through play based activities. In this way children are encouraged to make choices for themselves, have fun, and take risks. I look forward to getting to know not only your children, but your families as well!
