Once you have followed the steps in our financial aid checklist, you will receive an award letter. Your award letter may include one or more of the following awards and is based on full-time attendance. See the list below if you have questions about a specific award on your letter. The Expected Family Contribution (EFC) on your Student Aid Report (SAR) for the 2011-2012 award year determines your eligibility. The EFC is based on a formula derived from the federal government.

Grants and Award Programs Available:
Pell Grant
- Grant available to undergraduates that does not have to be repaid. It can be used for tuition, fees, books and living expenses.
- Based on EFC (0 – 5273) and enrollment for the semester. Maximum annual award is $5,550.
- Deadline:June 30, 2012
- Refund checks are released at the 60% point in each semester and are based on balance remaining after tuition, fees, and book charges. Also, amount is subject to enrolled hours at that point.

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
- Campus-based grant awarded to undergraduates that does not have to be repaid. It can be used for the same expenses as the Pell Grant.
- Based on EFC for 2011-2012 award year and enrollment. Maximum annual award $600. Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.
- Priority date is May 1, 2011. Students who have complete files and financial need by this date are first considerations.
- Refund checks are released at the 60% point in each semester and are based on balance remaining after tuition, fees and book charges. Also, amount is subject to enrolled hours at that point.

Illinois Student Assistance Commission Monetary Award Program (ISAC MAP)
- Illinois state grant available to undergraduate students that does not have to be repaid. Is used for tuition and fees, excluding course fees at JJC.
- Based on EFC, state calculation and Illinois residency. Award amounts may vary from $300 to $2022 (up to 15 credit hours at JJC). Amounts are subject to change due to state funding.
- Funds are directly credited to student's account for tuition and applicable fees.

Federal Direct Student Loan Programs
Student loans can be helpful tool in funding your education, but borrow them wisely. You should be aware the student loans must be repaid
To apply for William D. Ford Direct Loan program (Stafford Subsidized, Stafford Unsubsidized, and/or Federal Parent PLUs), please complete the following steps:
- Complete the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at
www.fafsa.gov
Submit a JJC Student Loan Request Form(the form can be obtained from the Financial Aid Office).
Complete an Entrance Loan Interview at www.StudentLoans.gov
Complete a Master promissory Note at www.StudentLoans.gov
Federal Direct Stafford Loan Programs
These loans are low-interest loans to help you pay for your college education. There are two kinds of federal Direct Stafford loans:
Subsidized
The subsidized loan is based on need, and the government pays the interest while the student is enrolled on at least a half-time basis.
Unsubsidized
The unsubsidized loan is a non-need-based loan for educational expenses. The student is responsible for the interest upon disbursement.
Most students will begin repayment six months after leaving JJC or dropping below half-time. The fixed interest rate for subsidized Stafford Loans is 4.5%. The fixed interest rate for unsubsidized Stafford Loans is 6.8%.
Federal Direct PLUS Loan Program
The Federal PLUS Loan is a non-need-based federal program. Parents of a dependent student may borrow up to the cost of attendance minus any financial aid to help finance their student’s undergraduate education. The loan interest rate is fixed at 7.9 percent.
If you drop below half-time status or do not enroll in the following term you are required to complete Exit loan Counseling at www.dl.ed.gov
