Tutoring Services 

The Academic Skills Center offers tutoring in three main areas: ACT COMPASS Placement Testing preparation, Academic Skills workshops, and content-area tutoring.  Below is more information about these three free options.

ACT COMPASS Placement Testing Preparation

In addition to the other ACT COMPASS Preparation options, workshops and one-on-one sessions are available at Main, North, and soon, Grundy Campuses for the following ACT COMPASS Placement Testing Components:

Academic Skills Workshops

In order for students to successfully graduate, it is important that they learn to study and prepare for exams, manage their time, and ultimately retain knowledge.  These transferable skills will prove to be invaluable as graduates pursue employment as well as additional education.

• Learn how to plan out your weekly schedule and whether you are a day or night person

Online Tutoring through Angel

This free online tutoring is available to all Joliet Junior College students for the following subjects:

• Accounting - ACCY 100, 101, 102, 103, 104, 105, and 107
• Algebra - MATH 094, 098, 101, 107, 108, 119, and 131
• Basic Math - MATH 090, 123, and 124
• Bilingual Math - MATH 090, 092, 094, 095, 098, 101, 107, 108, 119, 123, 124, 128, 131, 138, 139, 142, and 150
• Biology - BIO 104, 107, 144, 146, 151, and 152
• Calculus - MATH 138, 139, 142, and 150
• Chemistry - CHEM 100, 101, and 102
• Economics - ECON 100, 103, 104, 107, and 111
• Geometry - MATH 095, 108, 119, and 124
• Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology - BIO 160, 250, and 251
• Physics - PHYS 100, 101, 102, 103, 104, 201, 202, and 203
• Spanish - SPAN 101, 102, 103, and 104
• Statistics - MATH 092 and 128

Once you have an account, log into your JJC Angel account through I-Campus.  Next, locate and click the "I-Campus Tutoring" link.

If at any time you need assistance with your SMARTHINKING online tutoring account, you may receive help through the following means:

• Access the SMARTHINKING Student Handbook in the Customer Support and FAQ area of your SMARTHINKING homepage.
• Contact Technical Support for SMARTHINKING via phone at 888-430-7429, ext. 1 (Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. EST) or via email at support@smarthinking.com.

Your options for online tutoring through SMARTHINKING include the following:

• Schedule a Personal Session - Check the calendar in the "Schedule a Personal Session" within your SMARTHINKING account for available pre-scheduled appointments.
• Submit a Question or Submit an Essay - You can submit an essay or a question 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Turnaround time for response is typically within 24 hours.
• Connect with an e-structor now (live drop-in tutoring) using the schedule below.

Receiving Extra Credit for Tutoring

If your instructor offers extra credit for attending tutoring sessions, please follow the steps below to have your tutoring attendance information emailed to your instructor:

1. Using your JJC email account, email the ASC Secretary, Leslie Kolesar, at lkolesar@jjc.edu the following information:
• Your first and last name
• Your JJC ID #
• Your birth date
• Your instructor's first and last name
• Your instructor's JJC email address
2. Within two business days, Leslie will email your tutoring attendance information to both you and your instructor.  
3. If you or your instructor have any questions about this process, please contact Leslie Kolesar at (815) 280-6667.

Steps to Schedule an ACT COMPASS Review Session

1. Call (815) 280-2261 or (815) 280-6667 to reserve a space; please note that this free service is available only for JJC students.  Space is limited to 20 students per session.
2. Arrive at the workshop 5-10 minutes early with your JJC photo ID.
