PLACEMENT TESTS  (COMPASS)
All new, full-time students and those planning on taking a mathematics course, English 101, English 130, or any foreign language course must take the placement tests.

• Students must have a current JJC student application form (no more than two years old) on file before testing.

• Student must have photo ID in order to take the tests.

• Only one retest is permitted. Once a student begins an English/math course sequence, the COMPASS cannot be retaken.

• Testing must be completed prior to meeting with a counselor/ adviser and/or registering for courses.

The COMPASS test is offered in the Academic Skills Center and at the North Campus Resource Center. To obtain information regarding test dates, times and locations, call the Academic Skills Center at (815) 729-9020, ext. 2284.  Students wishing to ‘review’ for the COMPASS test should call (815) 729-9020, ext. 2261. Testing can take from 1.5 to 3 hours depending on sections taken.

Students who have completed a 100 or higher level English and/or math course at another college and wish to enroll in an English/math course at JJC must send or fax verification of the successful completion (“C” or better grade) in the form of a transcript or grade report to the attention of Academic Credential Specialist, J-2050, at (815) 729-4256 BEFORE registering for course(s).
