Joliet Junior College welcomes recent graduates and community members to the 19th Annual Joliet Regional Job Fair on Wednesday, May 23 from 1-4 p.m.
This marks the second year the fair will take place at the Event Center, located on the Main Campus at 1215 Houbolt Road.
“The job fair is after graduation again this year which is good news for new grads,” said JJC Career Services Director Bridgett Larkin-Beene. “Since the job fair is free and open to the public, it is a great opportunity for new JJC graduates and graduates from other local colleges and universities to find that first job after college. Many employers will be looking to fill professional entry level and experienced positions.”
Larkin-Beene expects over 130 employers to participate in the fair, similar to last year’s attendance.
Job seekers are required to bring copies of their resume and to dress professionally. Work opportunities range from part- and full-time to internships and seasonal. New this year, the college will offer LinkedIn head shots before and during the job fair on the upper level of the Event Center.
“As we all know, LinkedIn has become a powerful networking tool,” said Larkin-Beene. “Similar to the importance of professional appearance in person, hiring managers also develop a specific impression when looking at someone’s LinkedIn photo. It’s important that job seekers think about their appearance in a photo and what others may conclude about their personality and competence based on the image.
She says with unemployment at near record lows, many companies are looking to hire which makes for an ideal situation for any job seeker.
“Many attendees who come prepared and make a good impression may leave with interviews scheduled and can be working in just a couple weeks.”
Prior to the fair on May 23, The college will hold a preparation session at noon in the Event Center to give participants tips on how to navigate the job fair and make a great first impression.
The 19th Annual Joliet Regional Job Fair is supported by JJC Career Services, JJC Workforce Development, Workforce Services Division of Will County, Grundy Workforce Services and the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
