In order to create and sustain an inclusive educational environment, the Diversity Committee is
established to assure that the instructional, academic and support services of Joliet Junior College
meet the changing needs of the diverse population of students on campus in keeping with the mission

- Provide an open forum for the discussion and presentation of cultural issues that affect the
teaching and learning of a diverse student body.
- Proactively address issues of how to better understand and work with students and college
employees from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Create a safe environment and support system for the discussion of situations which may
create culturally based conflict between students, faculty and staff.
- Create a campus that is more aware of diversity issues.
- Enhance the recruitment, retention, and academic success of students from diverse backgrounds.
- Serve as a liaison between the college and the diverse community we serve in keeping with the
mission and philosophy of the college.
