Early School Leavers Program

The Early School Leavers program is designed to assist students who have not finished
high school. Our comprehensive program helps individuals achieve their academic
and employment goals.

Who is considered an early school leaver?
- A young adult age 16-21 years old.
- In need of a high school diploma or GED certificate.
- Interested in college-level vocational training or academic study.
- Desiring part time employment.
- Willing to make a commitment to the development of his or her potential.
What does the Early Leaver Program offer students?
- Counseling and academic advising
- Free tuition for GSD 110 (Career/Lifestyle Planning).
- The ability to enroll in college credit classes while working on a high school diploma
or GED certificate.
- Cooperative agreements with area high school districts who allow students to apply
college classes toward high school diploma requirements.
- Referrals to important support services.
Program Requirements
- Students must actively pursue completion of a high school diploma or GED certificate.
- Students must be enrolled in GSD 110 (Career/Lifestyle Planning), and/or GSD 100
(Orientation to the College Experience), or a jobs skills course approved by the
program coordinator.
- Demonstrate a 9th grade reading level.
- New students are required to take placement tests to assess their present skills
and recommend appropriate course placement.
- Part-time students who plan to take a math or English course, or who have accumulated 12 or more credit hours, also
must take these tests.
- Early Leavers are not eligible for financial aid.
