General Information

Clothing
Each child must have a clean set of clothing at the center. Clothing must be appropriate
for the weather and include socks, underclothes, a shirt and pants. Please bring
these to school prior to the first day's attendance. Put clothing in a plastic grocery
sack with the child's name clearly marked on the outside in permanent marker. During
cold weather, each child must have a coat, hat, mittens and boots.
Parents must provide a crib size blanket for the children who will be attending
during rest time. Parents are responsible for cleaning the blanket on a regular
basis. All personal belongings must be marked with the child's name.

Curriculum and Schedule
The curriculum at the Joliet Junior College Early Childhood Center is a combination
of child-initiated play, adult-supported projects, small-and large-group activities,
informal and pre-planned learning experiences.

Disruptive Behavior
In cases that arise where a child in the center is deemed harmful to himself or
to other children, the coordinator reserves the right to suspend the child's privilege
to attend for the day. Continuous disruptive or dangerous behavior will result in
suspension from the program for the semester.

Grievance Procedure
Should you have any concern or experience any problems while your child is enrolled
in the Early Childhood Center, you should bring those concerns or problems to the
attention of the teachers and /or your center coordinator. Feel free to talk to
the teachers or coordinator in an open and frank manner, offering suggestions and
possible solutions. The center staff will make every effort to help resolve any
problem related to the center activities.

Meal Service
All children scheduled to arrive at 6:30am or 7:00am will be included in the breakfast
program. Children scheduled at 12:00pm will participate in the hot
lunch program. Children are also provided two snacks each day; one mid-morning and
one after nap. The meal program is a nutritional program that stresses the importance
of good eating and positive attitudes toward food.
The cost of our meal service program is included in the hourly fee. The center participates
in the Child and Adult Food Program through the Illinois State Board of Education.
Anyone that feels they would qualify for a free or reduced fee lunch will be provided
the appropriate forms to apply. The children are served a balanced and nutritious
meal prepared in the college kitchen and catered to the center. Menus are planned
to meet the nutritional needs of the young child. Meals are served family style.
Children with special dietary restrictions must provide doctor's support through
letter or medical reports and parents must inform the coordinator through the child's
application process of these restrictions. All reasonable requests for modification
based on doctor supported evidence will be considered or modified.

Inclement Weather/School Closing
In cases of extreme weather conditions, radio stations WJOL (1340 AM) or WGN (730
AM) will carry announcements for school closing. There will be no charges for days
when school is closed.

Security
The place where children will be housed in the event of a disaster is the nearest,
safe environment. Location of that place will be determined by the coordinator and
the campus police. Notification of the place selected will be available to parents
from the police or other authorized agency.

Supplies
There are opportunities throughout the year for parents to donate supplies to the
center. We do not require traditional school supplies but do ask that parents support
our giving tree by making periodic donations to keep our center running smoothly
and to help keep our rates low for everyone. We require restocking of tissue, Tide
liquid laundry detergent, Dawn dish washing soap, Murphy's Oil Soap, flour, salt,
alum, cream of tarter, and a wide range of other staples for our cabinets. Please
help when and where you can.
