CLEP
CLEP exams allow you to earn credit based on knowledge you already possess.
There are 34 exams offered by the
College-Level Examination Program (CLEP). They cover courses in the disciplines of business,
composition and
literature, foreign languages; history and social sciences; and science and mathematics.
For more detail on CLEP go to the
CollegeBoard Web site.
The following link is available to practice for CLEP exams. It is not associated with CLEP.

All exams are administered by appointment only, Monday through Friday from 8:00am until 12:00pm.
- All CLEP exams are administered on a computer.
- The exams are 90 minutes in length.
- With the exception of 'English Composition with Essay', the tests are composed primarily
of multiple-choice questions. Some mathematics exams include fill-in type questions.
- All exams are scored on a scale of 20 to 80, not 1 to 100.
- The American Council on Education (ACE) recommends a credit-granting score of 50
with the exceptions of four-semester language exam scores that are higher. (Each
institution sets its own policy. JJC requires a score of 50 or better to grant credit.)
- Score reports are available upon completion of the exam so students know right
away how they performed. Scores for 'English Composition with Essay' are available 2 to 3
weeks after the exam date.
Fees
Credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, JCB, and debit cards with the Visa or
MasterCard logo) are the preferred payment method. Checks or Money Orders are also acceptable, and should be
made payable to CLEP. NO CASH ACCEPTED except through the Service Center. All fees are collected at the time
of testing and are subject to change without notice.
Exam Fee
- $70 payable to CLEP.
American Literature, Analyzing and Interpreting Literature, English Literature, and
Freshman College Composition sometimes require an additional optional essay. If the exam chosen
requires an optional essay, the examinee must inform the testing site in advance. There will be an
additional $10 fee for the essay questions and a two-week wait for them to be delivered.
Administrative Fee
- $15 payable to Joliet Junior College.
In addition to the above payment methods, this fee may be made by check or money order. This
fee and the exam fee are separate and cannot be combined.
Transcript Fee
- $20.
This option is available if a testing candidate chooses to send his or her transcripts to a
score recipient other than the one selected on the test. Credit cards are accepted for telephone
orders through CLEP Services at (800) 257-9558. For mail requests use the bottom half of the
Candidate Score Report. Instructions are provided on the form.
Official Study Guide, 19th Edition
- $25.
The Official Study Guide, including the CLEP Sampler CD-ROM, can be ordered at
collegeboard.com/clep, or by calling (800) 323-7155
in the United States. Ask for operator CLP0204A. International customers call (212) 713-8265.
