Student Speaker

Victoria Lynn Parker

Victoria Lynn Parker of Romeoville, the May 2008 student speaker, will graduate with an Associate in Applied Science degree in electrical/electronic automated systems. She is the first woman in her family to earn a degree. She is active in school organizations such as Phi Theta Kappa, is president of the Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society, and volunteers her time as a tutor. Victoria says that returning to school was something she never thought was possible. After working for 17 years, she lost her job at 35 and realized her skill set no longer matched current job requirements. The recipient of several scholarships, these awards made Victoria’s dream of returning to school a reality. Victoria will graduate with a 4.0 grade point average and high honors. In addition to her studies, she also volunteered in her department’s JJC Robotic Challenge, participated in the Generation Connect Project and JJC Lunch Bunch for students over 30, and was a lab assistant. She has also received the Technical Department Student Service Recognition Award.
