Spotlight: Carletta Seay
Spotlight: Carletta Seay
For Carletta Seay, a 2000 graduate of Joliet Junior College, it was the college's
family atmosphere that brought her to JJC in 1998 and has kept her involved ever
since.
"It's a very proud family to be a part of," she says. "I'm among many other people
that have received the same education and have gone on to achieve success in their
lives. It's an honor. I think it's such a great place to have come from."
Seay is the development director at the Senior Services Center of Will County and
also serves as president for the college's
Alumni Association. After JJC, Seay transferred to Northern Illinois University
where she earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and then received
her MBA from Governors State University.
"The college level is much different than high school. Those couple of years at
JJC helped me prepare myself," Seay adds. "The quality of education I received was
top notch. I was ready when I transferred."
In addition to being affordable and close to home, Seay credits her professors for
getting her prepared to transfer to NIU.
"The small ratio between professor and student allowed me to experience valuable
one-on-one interaction with my professors. They were very knowledgeable and willing
to help. I was able to have access to them if I had any questions," she says.
Seay encourages JJC grads to stay involved with the college through the many programs
and activities hosted by the Alumni Association. From the Success Stories Series,
which highlights the achievements of extraordinary alumni, to the annual Comedy
Night and Alumni Brunch, JJC offers its graduates many fun and exciting ways to
stay involved with the college.
"I was raised here in Joliet. To have JJC as part of my story is important to me."
