State of Illinois High School Diploma Test Preparation

Testing Services administers State of Illinois High School Diploma testing. The Tutoring and Learning Center provides assistance to Joliet Junior College students interested in preparing for these exams.

  • Constitution, GED, and HiSET

    Constitution Exam

    • All individuals wishing to earn their State of Illinois High School Diploma must pass the Constitution Test.
    • Study Guide in English (PDF).
    • Study Guide in Spanish (PDF).
    • The JJC Department of Education and Literacy (DAEL) provides State of Illinois High School Diploma courses free of charge to District 525 residents. Learn more about these free GED/ HiSET prep courses.
    • Students actively enrolled in a GED/TASC preparation course may visit the TLC for additional tutoring support.

    GED Exam

    HiSET Exam

    • The Joliet Junior College Department of Education and Literacy (DAEL) provides State of Illinois High School Diploma courses free of charge to District 525 residents. Learn more about these free GED/ HiSET prep courses.

    TASC Exam

    • The TASC Exam was discontinued on December 31, 2021.

     

Placement Test Preparation

Testing Services administers English and math placement testing. The Tutoring and Learning Center provides assistance to Joliet Junior College students interested in preparing for these exams.

  • Prepare for your Placement Test

    Preparation is KEY! 

    JJC wants all students taking the Accuplacer and ALEKS placement exams for English and math placement to be successfully placed into the appropriate course. Placement test information and preparation is important for your success at the college. Here is what you need to know to prepare to take your placement tests:

    Prepare!
    • Be well rested and get a good night's sleep before your test day.
    • Eat a good meal before coming in to test.
    • Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to test. The Accuplacer and ALEKS tests are both untimed tests, so make sure you come in with plenty of time to test so you can take your time. Visit Testing Services to view testing hours.
    • Plan your day! Get information on Testing Services locations, parking, and hours so you know where to go when you arrive on campus to take your test.
    • Did you know that the following items are NOT allowed in the testing center:
      • Cell phones and all electronics
      • Wearable technology such as watches, Smart Watches, and fitbits
      • Personal pens and pencils
      • Food and beverages
      • Outerwear such as coats, hats, gloves, and scarves
      • Study materials and guides
      • Backpacks, purses, and bags
    • Pencils and scratch paper will be provided for all placement tests.
    • Do you need a testing accommodation? Please visit Disability Services to make an appointment to meet with a staff member before coming in to take your placement test.

    • JJC's Tutoring and Learning Center provides one on one assistance for students looking to prepare to take the English and math placement tests. Tutors help students with sample ACCUPLACER essays, ALEKS prep and learning modules, and study techniques and strategies.
    • If you cannot come on campus, review prep materials at home or from any computer by visiting the sites listed on this page under each test.

  • Accuplacer and ALEKS

    Accuplacer Exam

    Accuplacer Exam, produced by College Board, is a computer-based, untimed test for reading, writing, English for Academic Purposes (EAP), and geometry testing.  Accuplacer math testing may be used for some math placement testing accommodations.

    ALEKS Exam

    ALEKS Exam, produced by McGraw Hill, is a computer-based, untimed math test. 

    The ALEKS exam provides robust and student-centered Prep and Learning modules to help students successfully work through on-demand math content and instruction prepared for each student based on their placement test. Students can visit the TLC to work with a tutor through their ALEKS Prep and Learning Modules.

  • ACT and SAT Scores

    Do you have ACT or SAT scores?

    JJC accepts valid ACT and SAT scores for English and math placement. If you have qualifying ACT or SAT score within the last 48 months, you may not need to take the Accuplacer and/or ALEKS placement test.

    • Placement into English 101:
      • ACT English - 19
      • 2016 SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing - 480
    • Placement into Math 119, 123, 127, 128, 131, or 139:
      • ACT Math - 22
      • 2016 SAT Math - 530
    • Placement into Math 142:
      • ACT Math - 23
      • 2016 SAT Math - 590

     

    Vising the Admissions Office to have your official scores sent from ACT or CollegeBoard to JJC.

TEAS Preparation

Testing Services administers TEAS testing. The Tutoring and Learning Center provides live, online TEAS preparation workshops to JJC and non-JJC students. Review the information below to learn about the registration process, TEAS preparation workshop dates, and view comments from previous individuals who have attended these sessions.

  • Virtual TEAS Workshops

    Registration Process

    1. Email or call the Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC) to ensure a TEAS preparation workshop seat is available for your preferred subject(s): math, reading, science, or writing.  You may call the TLC at 815-280-2730 or email tutoring@jjc.edu.
    2. Pay the non-refundable, non-transferrable TEAS Preparation Workshop Fee.
       
      • Joliet Junior College Students

      • TEAS preparation workshops are free to JJC students who are enrolled in the previous, current, or next semester.  Once registered, JJC students will receive an email with the following information:

        • Confirmation of date and time of workshop(s), 

        • Invitation to online meeting space, and

        • iCampus invitation to view TEAS preparation study materials.

      • Non-Joliet Junior College Students

        • Non-JJC students must pay $25.00 per workshop.  Workshops are organized by subject: math, reading, science, or writing.

        • Once payment has been received over the phone, and the TLC has received proof of purchase, TEAS preparation study materials and invitation to online meeting space will be emailed to your personal email.

    3. You will not need to provide a copy of receipt to attend TEAS Preparation Workshop; your name will appear on the roster.
    4. Only those individuals on the roster will be allowed to attend. Drop-ins are not allowed, and workshop registration is not transferrable.
