View Secretary JoAnna Sonnier's Bio

My name is Betty Lorch and I have worked as the Coordinator of The Early School Leavers’ Program since 1997. I enjoy my work and am very proud of my students.  Many of them have gone on to accomplish wonderful things.

I grew up in Waterloo, Iowa and graduated from The University of Northern Iowa with a teaching degree. Shortly after that, I moved to rural northeast Iowa where I became the director of a Girl Scout camp. I went on to work at North East Iowa Community Action programs and went back to school part-time at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.

My young daughter and I moved to Eagle Pass, Texas in 1985 where I became a high school math teacher. I loved being able to travel into Mexico weekly and grew to love Latino culture.

Marrying my husband Bill brought me back to the Midwest and Joliet Jr. College. My daughter graduated from JJC and loved being here. I like working with students here also.

Hi, my name is JoAnna Sonnier and I work at the City Center Campus as secretary for the Early School Leavers program.  I enjoy being a part of Joliet Junior College staff and working with Betty Lorch (program coordinator) to help students achieve their individual needs to graduate from high school.

On a personal note I have two grandchildren who are my pride and joy, two dogs (plus my granddaughters one dog,) and three cats (which decided they wanted to live with me.) Needless to say, I have a special place in my heart for stray animals and have been fortunate in finding homes for most of them. This is why I have three cats!
