JJC's Agriculture Programs have a long standing tradition for providing a
practical quality education for students and the community. The FIRST
Agriculture Program offered by any Illinois Community College in 1954 has
developed into four programs serving more than 200 students each year who
desire education in the varied fields of production agriculture and
agri-business. Students who desire to enter full-time employment following
graduation can expect 4-8 job opportunities from which to choose while those
who plan to transfer to other institutions will find JJC credits accepted
nationwide.
In addition to hands-on
learning in many laboratory classes on campus, the Agriculture Programs
include a major on-job-training component which makes up nearly 25% of the
credit required for the Associate in Applied Science Degree. Students are
placed for full-time internship experience (with pay) nationwide and are
supervised regularly on-site by JJC Staff.
JJC's 100 acre on-campus J. F.
Richards Land Laboratory: Demonstration & Research Farm contributes another practical component to
students' education by providing the opportunity to actively observe and
participate in on-farm research and demonstration trials.
An active Student Agriculture
Association, nationally recognized Livestock Judging Team and a wide variety
of intercollegiate athletics are activities which help provide a well
rounded education for all students.
Since JJC welcomes students from throughout Illinois as well as nationwide,
assistance in securing nearby off-campus housing is provided for all
students.
