Introduction to Glass Bead Making (LLC 3865) Learn the hottest new trend in glass!  Students will take home as many beads as they can make in this one day seminar.  Course topics include safety, setting up a home studio, proper annealing, and basic bead making techniques.  No experience necessary, all supplies and tools for the day are provided.  Ages 16 and up welcome.

Pottery (LLC 731)
Learn basic hand molding and wheel work. Individual attention is given to each student while they work with their personal interests. You take your creations home. All materials are provided, including clay and glazes, etc. – the firing is done for you too. This class is held at The Talent Zone, 802 Wilcox Street, Joliet. No experience necessary.

Pottery Continued (LLC 3641)
Have you enjoyed pottery class and would like to do more? Continue the fun with more pottery projects. You take your creations home. All materials are provided; including clay and glazes, etc. – and the firing is done for you too. This class is held at The Talent Zone, 802 Wilcox Street, Joliet. No experience necessary.

Sewing for Beginners (LLC 3525)
Never sewed before but have a desire to learn and don't know where to begin? This class is the place to start! Understanding patterns, measurements and fabric types will be covered. One simple item will be completed during the course. Attendees will need to bring their own sewing machine. Supply list furnished. Book included with class cost.

Sewing Continued (LLC 3656)
Continue where you left off in Sewing for Beginners or for individuals with basic sewing skills. Learn to put in zippers, make simple facings, attach collars, and complete darts. You will learn more about your machine and how to follow patterns. Attendees will need to bring their own sewing machine. Supply list furnished. Prerequisite: Sewing for Beginners or previous class/experience with clothing construction.

Knitting for Beginners (LLC 712) Learn the very basics of knitting.  In this fun hands-on class you will be introduced to basic techniques and get started on your first project.  Supply list given in class after first session and projects are chosen.

Crocheting for Beginners (LLC 711) Learn the very basics of crochet.  In this fun hands-on class you will be introduced to basic techniques and get started on your first project.  Supply list given in class after first session and projects are chosen.

Crocheting Holiday Project  (LLC 3868) A fun and exciting project class; crochet a gorgeous holiday project of your choice. Choose a poinsettia jar topper or a holiday hang towel topper.  They can be a fun decoration for your home or a gift for someone special.  Supply list mailed before first class. Basic knowledge of crocheting suggested.

Quilting (LLC 848) Learn the art of hand quilting. Instructor provides the basic necessities to learn this vanishing skill. Additional supply list issued at the first class meeting. You will learn a process allowing you to design and create wonderful, old-fashioned items that will become family heirlooms. A relaxing and satisfying hobby for individuals of all ages. If you have enjoyed this class in the past you will enjoy a refresher in the art.

Glass Bead Making II (LLC 4255)
Continue the journey with the hottest new trend in glass! Students will take home as many beads as they can make in this one day seminar. Course will focus on more advanced bead making techniques. Students need to have completed Introduction to Glass Bead Making or have previous experience; all supplies and tools for the day are provided. Ages 16 and up welcome. Bring a sack lunch. An Introduction to Glass Fused Jewelry (LLC 4256)
Learn about glass fusing while creating up to 3 jewelry pendants with your own original design. The first session students will learn how glass is cut, about color study, and the science of glass fusing. Students will design and build pendants. During the second session students will learn how to wire wrap the pendants that have been fired. Enjoy a fun, creative class and leave with one of a kind jewelry with your own artistic flare.

Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine (LLC 4185)
Are you struggling with your sewing machine? Join this introductory class that will introduce you to the basics of your sewing machine. Learn to thread the machine, make a bobbin, sew a straight line and zig zag. Please bring your sewing machine, instruction manual, scrap cotton fabric, empty bobbins and two spools of all-purpose dual duty thread.

Introduction to Upholstery (LLC 4257)
Learn how to turn otherwise unusable/undesirable furniture pieces into your personal treasures. This course will demonstrate the basics on how to turn your family castoffs, garage sale/resale finds into perfect pieces to compliment your hones dcor. Learn the fundamental techniques for upholstery to transform your furniture pieces into eye catching, attractive additions to your home. Focus will also include how to measure furniture pieces to determine fabric required for project. Student projects will consist of small, portable furniture such as a stool, dining chair, small ottoman or even a pillow to allow for transportation to and from class. Techniques learned will be able to be applied to larger at home projects. Previous experience with sewing and sewing machines is strongly recommended. Supply list will be provided.

Basic Bead Jewelry (LLC 4186)
Learn a step-by-step approach using beads to create simple yet fun filled earrings, bracelets and pendant style necklaces. No previous experience necessary. Classroom demonstrations will be given as students practice each technique hands-on. Students are encouraged to bring in old, bead jewelry that can be taken apart and recycled to create new jewelry. Learn about glass fusing while creating three jewelry pendants with your own original design. Whether gifts for yourself or others you will enjoy this fun, creative class and leave with one of a kind jewelry with your own artistic flare. One creation will be a fused glass pendant with a silver or gold bail, the second pendant will be a Dremel etched pendant, and the third pendant will be your choice of either.

Photography Meets Art Quilt (LLC 4318)
No sewing required! Begin by taking a nature photograph with your camera. Learn to load it on to a computer and manipulate the photograph to produce a work of art in itself. After printing the photograph on to fabric (yes, fabric), use textile paints to highlight the image. Then fuse the image to quilt batting and bind it with hand-dyed, hand painted, or batik fabric to produce a fantastic piece of art.  Short supply list will be provided.

Emergency Card Kit (LLC 4107)
Did you ever need a quick greeting card and didn?t have it? Forget those impersonal boxed sets from the greeting card store, this class you will put cards good for those sometimes forgotten events at your fingertips. Create cards using rubberstamps (envelopes included) that will show your personal touch. No experience necessary and all supplies will be included. These cards will be the perfect six-pack to have on hand for the year for teachers, friends or anyone you would like to delight (three thank-you, three blank note cards).

Intro to Fabric Stamping (LLC 4319)
Use techniques in fabric stamping to create a personalized gift bag that will hold a bottle of wine or juice. Create the ultimate hostess gift with your own creative touch. After this creative, fun class you will be able to repeat the steps on your own to present gifts with your own special signature style.

Halloween Stamping (LLC 3978)
Enjoy a fun, creative evening stamping with a Halloween theme. Enjoy learning stamping techniques and creating "spooktackular" treats for Halloween that will bring the entire neighborhood to your home to trick or treat when they see the cute treats you will be handing out! No experience necessary and all supplies will be included.

It's A Wrap (LLC 3643)
Tired of the same old wrapping techniques? Try something delightfully creative- rubberstamp your gift wrap. Create a matching box, card, tissue, and bow with rubberstamps and paper. This gift wrap set will hold your holiday gifts for your special someone! All supplies provided.

Watercolors Workshop (LLC 3639)
Experience a watercolor class designed for all levels of experience. Beginners will focus on the basic techniques and properties of working with watercolors while more advanced students will continue to build on these skills working from photographs as well as real life. Enjoy step by step demonstrations from an experience art instructor with corresponding student work. Supply list will be mailed before class. Class held at Lincoln Way Central, New Lenox.  

Traditional Oil Painting (LLC 4069)
Experience an oil painting class designed for all levels of experience.  The Friends of Community Public Art FCPA has teamed with Joliet Junior College to offer this class using traditional Renaissance oil painting techniques.  You will create one monochromatic oil painting.  Beginners will focus on the basic techniques and properties of working with oils while more advanced students will continue to build on these skills working from photographs.  Enjoy step by step demonstrations from an experienced art instructor.  All supplies will be provided, however a materials voucher will need to be purchased separately at the studio.  Please budget $50 for materials.  Class will be held at FCPA.

Abstract Acrylic Painting Class (4189)
Learn the basics of painting small, abstract, acrylic paintings. No previous experience necessary. The instructor will demonstrate several step-by-step abstract processes and students will practice the techniques hands-on. Decorate your home with your own unique pieces of art or have fun artworks to give as gifts. Supply list mailed prior to class start date or contact Brenda Large at

Drawing for Painters (LLC 4261)
Along with basic principles of design students will learn the application of the Golden Mean. This perfect proportion is consciously or unconsciously applied in all meaningful 2D and/or 3D artwork including architecture. In five weeks students will learn how it can be used in a 2D image. They will create charcoal drawings on canvas working from photographs and under step-by-step guidance they will learn to apply all demonstrated principles. Supplies will be provided, however a material voucher will need to be purchased separately at the studio. These drawings may be used as a basis for oil paintings in LLC 4069 class. Please budget $17 for materials. Class will be held at FCPA, 310 N. Ottawa, Joliet.

 

Drawing (LLC 3273)
Learn and work in a friendly and challenging classroom. Beginning and experienced students will progress from the basics of drawing to advanced techniques. The award winning instructor will do demonstrations of various subjects including: still life, perspective and buildings, landscapes, animals and birds. Work from your own photos or supplied.  Acrylic Painting (LLC 2035)
Acrylic paint is exciting and user friendly. The award winning instructor will do demonstrations and give one on one instruction as needed as the students work from their own photos or supplied. Basic to advanced techniques will be shown. Supply list will be mailed prior to class start date or contact Brenda Large at blarge@jjc.edu for list.

Introductory Oil Painting (LLC 4260)
Learn the basics of oil painting the Alexander way. No previous experience necessary. The instructor will demonstrate step-by-step processes and students will practice basic techniques completing a painting each class session. Focus is on encouraging creativity and having fun painting! A short budget friendly supply list will be mailed prior to class start date or contact Brenda Large at blarge@jjc.edu for list.

Watercolors Continued (LLC 723)
A continuation of ?Watercolors Workshop, or  for the slightly more advanced painter. Students will receive personal attention during completion of more complex paintings. Class involves step-by-step demonstrations with corresponding student work. Even if you have enjoyed this class in the past, you will enjoy it again. Instructor will vary content based on student experience. Supply list will be mailed before class. Class held at Lincoln Way Central, New Lenox.
