Charlene Jones, of Crest Hill, graduates with an Associate of Applied Science degree in the administrative assistant field. She plans to continue her education at DeVry University where she will major in business administration with a specialization in marketing and sales. Jones made the decision to come back to school after her husband, who is a Cook County Sheriff’s Officer and a member of the Army National Guard, returned from Iraq in 2004. During the two years Jones’ husband was gone, she raised their three children, Gavin, Serene, and Nia, while working to support her family. “Believe it or not, I’ve always wanted to be a secretary,” Jones said. “The encouragement that I received from professors at JJC has helped me achieve my goals.” In addition to her success as a student, Jones has also been heavily involved in campus organizations and activities. She served as the president of the JJC Student Alumni Association from October 2006-May 2007, where she led the group through numerous activities, including several fundraisers and promotion of the group to prospective members. Jones is also the president of the college’s honor society Phi Theta Kappa-Alpha Lambda Phi Chapter. In February 2007, the Joliet Rotary Club recognized Jones as its JJC student representative for the month. Jones, who also served as a member of the U.S. Air Force, is an active member of her church and a volunteer coach for the region 717 AYSO soccer organization. |
