Staff looks back, ahead as
changes are in the offing
As we here at the Blazer wrap up another year of amazing work—ok, maybe we’re a little biased—we would like to thank all the loyal readers for their support.
Most of us are moving on to bigger and better things, but a select few will be back next year to bring the news to you, the students and employees of this fine institution.
As always, those of us who will be back next year will need help to keep this paper afloat. We have several openings for editors, and we can always use people to write articles about a wide variety of topics (and editors get paid, too). We will also need layout people and an ad manager. No experience is necessary for any of the positions, but some high school experience is helptul.
What is it like, you may ask, to work for a student newspaper? The simple answer is that it’s just like working for any other newspaper, except your main job is to cover the campus. But it’s more than that.
There are many benefits to working for a student newspaper: You get to see your name in print, giving you bragging rights with your friends and family; you develop strong relationships with the staff that works to put out the newspaper; and you get to make the most out of your college experience (because if you come to JJC, or any school, and just go to class and then go home, you’re likely to dread college).
Some of us came to college knowing what we wanted to do—others are using JJC to help them make that decision. That’s where the Blazer and other campus organizations can play a role in helping you to make that decision.
So, we will be back in the fall, and we hope you are with us. If you like what you’ve seen from us, come and join us. If you think you can do better, come down and show us how to do it. Either way you win, and so do we.
