Religious Diversity Forum creates discussion among JJC students
By Rachel Stella
Students and faculty gathered to hear introductory presentations of several religious worldviews, and to dialogue about various concerns. Hosted by the Office of Student Activities on April 16, the "Religious Diversity Forum" featured a panel of speakers representing different religions who answered questions put to them by audience members.
JJC clubs represented were: Pagan Wiccan Club, Muslim Student Association, Catholic Campus Ministry, and InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. Also present were speakers representing Orthodox Christianity and Hinduism.
The clubs provided integral information on their religions in hopes to open the JJC community to each other and the many faiths that represent the student, faculty and staff. All questions were welcome to the representatives of the clubs and organizations.
The event was scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with complimentary sandwiches and desserts being served.
Pam Dilday, Director of Student Activities, thought the dialogue was successful in generating interest, referring to the event as "the First Annual Religious Diversity Forum", in hopes of having these discussions more in the future.
"I came as soon as I got out of class," said student Megan Myers. Several students discussed how the event could have easily gone on quite past the scheduled time, had not Dilday called the event to a close.
Overall, the forum was well-received by the attendees, with many voicing their interest in any similar events in the future.
