Lady Wolves open up season with win against Gogebic CC

 

The Joliet Junior College women's basketball team defeated Gogebic Community College by a score of 84-79 to earn their first victory of the season in the Madison Area Technical College Battle of the Borders basketball tournament. Right out of the gate this season, sophomore Shantel Johnson led the Lady Wolves with a triple double. She had 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. Martha Benjamin had 14 points and 8 rebounds, while Katie Blocker added 12 points. Telyshia Adams chipped in with 10 points. Autumn Weeks pulled down 9 rebounds and Sarai Guerrero added 7 assists. "We had an up-and-down game in this one," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "We trailed 13 points in the first half, built a 42-39 halftime lead and enlarged that margin to 25 points in the second half. JJC (1-0 overall) takes on Rochester CTC for the championship game of the MATC Battle of the Borders tournament on Saturday, November 10, 2007. Game time is 12:00 pm.

Joliet captures championship at MATC Battle of the Borders tournament

 

The JJC women's basketball team defeated #9 ranked Rochester Community & Technical College in a thrilling 79-76 victory to claim the Madison Area Technical College Battle of the Borders tournament championship. Shantel Johnson had 21 points and 7 rebounds followed by Sarai Guerrero with 13 points. Chenae Cooper added 10 points and 8 rebounds. Autumn Weeks and Martha Benjamin combined for 17 rebounds. "We used pressure on the ball to overcome Rochester's 3-2 offensive set," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "We took away the reverse pass. It was a big win for us." Johnson and Guerrero both made the all-tournament team. JJC (2-0 overall) travels to Illinois Valley Community College on Tuesday, November 13, 2007. Game time is 5:30 pm.

JJC gets third straight victory

 

The Joliet Junior College women's basketball team earned their third straight victory with a 76-59 win over Illinois Valley Community College. Shantel Johnson led the Lady Wolves with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Katie Blocker shot lights out with four 3-pointers totaling 16 points. Autumn Weeks recorded her first double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Kyana Benvenuto had 9 points, while Martha Benjamin added 8 points and 8 rebounds. Chenae Cooper pulled down 9 rebounds in the contest. "The great thing about this group appears to be their flexibility," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "We can put different personnel out there to match most any obstacle. I've been really impressed so far." JJC (3-0 overall) hosts Prairie State College on Thursday, November 15, 2007. Game time is 5:00 pm.

Lady Wolves down Prairie State

 

It was a team effort in the JJC women's basketball 95-59 victory against Prairie State College. Six players scored in double digits for the Lady Wolves. Leading the pack was Shantel Johnson with 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 steals. Close behind were Katie Blocker with 17 points and Martha Benjamin with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Chenae Cooper had 14 points, Sarai Guerrero scored 12 points, and Autumn Weeks recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Telyshia Adams added 10 assists in the contest. "We couldn't have asked for better balance," said Head Coach Tony Giese. "Tomorrow will be a real test for our team against Anoka-Ramsey." #2 ranked JJC (4-0 overall) hosts #1 ranked Anoka-Ramsey Community College on Friday, November 16, 2007. Game time is 5:00 pm.

Joliet gets it done

 

The #2 ranked Joliet Junior College women's basketball team pulled out an exciting victory against #1 ranked Anoka-Ramsey Community College by a score of 78-68. Balanced scoring played a big role in this contest with Katie Blocker, Telyshia Adams, and Chenae Cooper all scoring 15 points. Cooper recorded 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Autumn Weeks scored 10 points and had 15 rebounds to post her third double-double of the year. Shantel Johnson posted 9 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists. "I knew Anoka-Ramsey's energy was going to be unbelievable coming into this game. And it was for the first 10 minutes," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "I thought our team matched their energy and then took it to another level." JJC (5-0 overall) travels to Division II Moraine Valley Community College on Tuesday, November 20, 2007. Game time is 5:00 pm.

Lady Wolves stay perfect with 66-63 victory

 

The JJC women's basketball team defeated Division II opponent Moraine Valley Community College by a score of 66-63. Chenae Cooper led the Lady Wolves with 17 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Shantel Johnson had 16 points. Martha Benjamin added 10 points and 9 rebounds. "Give credit to Moraine Valley in this game," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "It is always a tough one when we match up against each other." JJC (6-0 overall) hosts Waubonsee Community College in the opening round of the JJC Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday, November 23, 2007. Game time is 7:00 pm.

Joliet wins in opening round of tournament

 

The Joliet Junior College women's basketball team defeated Waubonsee Community College in the opening round of the JJC Thanksgiving tournament by a score of 75-58. Shantel Johnson led the pack with 15 points. Katie Blocker had 14 points including four 3-pointers. Martha Benjamin had 12 points followed by Chenae Cooper with 10 points. Autumn Weeks had 9 rebounds in the contest. "We had to trust our defense in this one," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "We had some match up issues because Waubonsee is so big in the backcourt." JJC (7-0 overall) takes on Danville Area Community College in the championship game of the JJC Thanksgiving tournament on Saturday, November 24, 2007. Game time is 3:00 pm.

Lady Wolves suffer first loss of the season

 

The JJC women's basketball team received their first loss of the season from Danville Area Community College in the championship game of the JJC Thanksgiving tournament by a score of 70-57. Sophomore Shantel Johnson scored 18 points for the Lady Wolves. Martha Benjamin had 8 points and 10 rebounds, while Chenae Cooper added 8 points and 8 rebounds. "Danville is a good team and we need to build from this game," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "We played okay defense, but we did make mistakes here and there." Shantel Johnson and Chenae Cooper received all-tournament honors. JJC (7-1 overall) hosts Millikin University JV on Monday, November 26, 2007. Game time is 5:00 pm.

Joliet bounces back with win over Millikin JV

 

The Joliet Junior College women's basketball team came back after their first loss of the season to post a 66-46 victory over Millikin University JV. Freshman Katie Blocker led the way with 16 points, including four 3-point-shots. Martha Benjamin scored 9 points and had 6 rebounds, while Jeria Washington added 9 points and 11 rebounds. Autumn Weeks chipped in with 8 points and 6 rebounds. "It's nice to see that we bounced back after the loss to Danville," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "We worked hard on our inside game tonight." JJC (8-1 overall) travels to Morton College on Thursday, November 29, 2007. Game time is 5:00 pm.

Balanced scoring leads Lady Wolves over Morton

 

The JJC women's basketball team defeated Morton College by a score of 101-43. Leading the Lady Wolves was Shantel Johnson with 20 points and 13 rebounds, followed by Martha Benjamin with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Sarai Guerrero and Katie Blocker were red hot from the 3-point line with Guerrero hitting five for a total of 17 points and Blocker sinking four with a total of 16 points. Chelsea Crawford scored 13 points in the contest. "We've got five players out with injuries, so our starters saw a lot of minutes," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "Hopefully we can get healthy soon and get everyone back." JJC (9-1 overall) hosts Division II power Parkland College on Tuesday, December 4, 2007. Game time is 5:30 pm.

Injuries plague Lady Wolves as they fall to Parkland

 

The Joliet Junior College women's basketball team was defeated by Parkland College by a score of 86-66. Sophomore Shantel Johnson paced the Lady Wolves with 23 points. Telyshia Adams scored 12 points, while Chelsea Crawford added 9 points. "Parkland beat us in every category tonight," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "They were better coached, had a better system, and just plain wore us down. If we want to be taken seriously, we have to pick it up as a program. Our injuries have limited us, but we cannot use that as an excuse." JJC (9-2 overall) travels to Milwaukee Area Technical College on Friday, December 7, 2007. Game time is 5:00 pm.

Joliet bounces back with win over Milwaukee Tech

 

The JJC women's basketball team defeated Milwaukee Area Technical College by a score of 98-34. Jeria Washington led the Lady Wolves with 24 points and 15 rebounds followed by Martha Benjamin with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Shantel Johnson scored 16 points and had 15 rebounds. Katie Blocker had 15 points in the contest. Telyshia Adams added 10 steals and 8 assists. "Our kids did a great job feeding the post tonight. We had a nice mix of inside and outside", Head Coach Tony Giese said. "We were much more prepared for this game. We need more games like this from our post players. They will have to show up on Wednesday for us to have a chance." JJC (10-2 overall) travels to #2 ranked Division II opponent Kankakee Community College on Wednesday, December 12, 2007. Game time is 5:30 pm.

Lady Wolves fall to Kankakee

 

The Joliet Junior College women's basketball team was defeated by Kankakee Community College by a score of 87-73. Kankakee, ranked #2 in Division II, has remained undefeated this season topping #1 ranked Joliet in Division III. Shantel Johnson led the Lady Wolves with 28 points. Chenae Cooper finished with 13 points, while Sarai Guerrero added 8 points. "Kankakee just dominated the rebounds in this game," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "We had a great comeback, but just fell short." JJC (10-3 overall) hosts Madison Area Technical College on Saturday, December 15, 2007. Game time is 1:00 pm.

Blocker is lights out against Madison Tech

 

The JJC women's basketball team defeated Madison Area Technical College by a score of 72-65. Katie Blocker led the Lady Wolves with 26 points including shooting 6-of-11 from the 3-point line. Martha Benjamin added 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Shantel Johnson recorded 12 points and 18 rebounds. Telyshia Adams chipped in with 10 points. "Katie's shooting was unbelievable today," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "She found her sport and couldn't miss from beyond the arc." JJC (11-3 overall) travels to Lake Michigan College on Monday, December 17, 2007. Game time is 5:30 pm EST.

Lady Wolves come up short against Lake Michigan

 

The Joliet Junior College women's basketball team was defeated by Lake Michigan College by a score of 85-77. Shantel Johnson led the Lady Wolves with 25 points and 14 rebounds. Martha Benjamin had 15 points and 17 rebounds, while Sarai Guerrero added 14 points. Telyshia Adams chipped in with 12 points. "We played a hard game," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "We hung in there throughout the game but just came up short." JJC (11-4 overall) travels to the College of Lake County on Saturday, January 5, 2008. Game time is 1:00 pm.

The JJC women's basketball team came back after winter break with a disappointing 81-57 loss to the College of Lake County. Shantel Johnson and Martha Benjamin paced the Lady Wolves with 14 points each. Sarai Guerrero had 9 points, while Telyshia Adams scored 8 points in the contest. "We did not look very well today," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "We will have to make some adjustments and get ready for our next game." JJC (11-5 overall) hosts Robert Morris College JV on Monday, January 7, 2008. Game time is 5:00 pm.

The Joliet Junior College women's basketball team defeated Robert Morris College JV by a score of 54-48. Martha Benjamin led the Lady Wolves with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Katie Blocker scored 14 points and Telyshia Adams added 11 points. Sarai Guerrero pulled down 9 rebounds. "We are slowly getting back into things," Head Coach Tony Giese said. The JJC women's basketball team dropped a 71-63 decision to N4C conference opponent College of DuPage. Shantel Johnson recorded a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Katie Blocker scored 22 points including seven 3-pointers. Stephanie Slaughter chipped in with 10 points. Shante Jackson had 10 rebounds for the Lady Wolves. "I thought we did a nice job coming back from a 17 point deficit after the first half," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "Unfortunately we fell just short in the end." JJC (13-6 overall, 0-1 N4C) hosts N4C conference opponent Harper College on Tuesday, January 22, 2008. Game time is 5:00 pm.

The Joliet Junior College women's basketball team defeated N4C conference opponent Harper College by a score of 69-63. Shantel Johnson led the Lady Wolves with 22 points and 20 rebounds for a double-double. Sarai Guerrero scored 15 points, while Stephanie Slaughter added 12 points. Telyshia Adams and Katie Blocker each scored 8 points. "It was nice to get our first conference victory," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "We have to continue to finish out each game strong." The JJC women's basketball team was defeated by Division II powerhouse Illinois Central College by a score of 102-65. Shantel Johnson led the Lady Wolves with 34 points and 19 rebounds for a double-double. Katie Blocker scored 15 points, while Telyshia Adams had 8 points. "We had a tremendous effort by a our team tonight," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "We never stopped competing." JJC (14-7 overall) hosts N4C conference opponent Wilbur Wright College on Saturday, January 26, 2008. Game time is 5:00 pm.

The Joliet Junior College women's basketball team defeated N4C conference opponent Wilbur Wright College by a score of 91-50. Shantel Johnson led the way with 28 points and 16 rebounds for another double-double on the season. Telyshia Adams had 16 points, while Sarai Guerrero and Katie Blocker each scored 14 points. "It was good to see our team bounce back after Thursday's game at Illinois Central," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "We have a tough week ahead of us with two more conference games." The JJC women's basketball team defeated N4C conference opponent Triton College by a score of 101-68. Shantel Johnson paced the Lady Wolves with 31 points and 12 rebounds. Telyshia Adams scored 26 points and Katie Blocker had 23 points, including an astounding seven 3-pointers. Stephanie Slaughter and Chelsea Crawford chipped in with 8 points each. "We played well enough to get a win," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "We played a great second half and that was encouraging. It was good to see a couple of other players step up tonight." JJC (16-7 overall, 3-1 N4C) hosts N4C conference opponent Rock Valley College on Saturday, February 2, 2008. Game time is 5:00 pm.

Lady Wolves earn big win over Rock Valley

 

The Joliet Junior College women's basketball team defeated N4C conference opponent Rock Valley College by a score of 80-70. Sophomore Shantel Johnson led the Lady Wolves with 28 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 steals. Chelsea Crawford and Telyshia Adams each scored 14 points, while Martha Benjamin added 12 points and 10 rebounds. "We are really starting to put things together," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "This game was a complete team effort. Chelsea Crawford gave us a big lift and it was nice to see Martha Benjamin return to the lineup. We are beginning to learn how to work together with one another." JJC (17-7 overall, 4-1 N4C) hosts N4C conference opponent College of DuPage on Tuesday, February 5, 2008. Game time is 5:00 pm.

Second times a charm for Lady Wolves

 

The JJC women's basketball team defeated N4C conference opponent College of DuPage by a score of 70-69. Freshman Katie Blocker and Martha Benjamin led the Lady Wolves each scoring 21 points. Blocker was lights out making good on seven 3-pointers. Benjamin pulled down 16 rebounds in the contest. Sophomore Shantel Johnson added 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Telyshia Adams chipped in with 7 points. "Our team stepped up once again," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "DuPage tried to isolate Shantel, but Martha and Katie stepped up and did a great job. "It seems someone different is beginning to step up night after night." JJC (18-7 overall, 5-1 N4C) hosts Division II non-conference opponent South Suburban College on Thursday, February 7, 2008. Game time is 5:00 pm.

JJC falls to a tough South Suburban

 

The Joliet Junior College women's basketball team was defeated by Division II opponent South Suburban College by a score of 71-58. Shantel Johnson and Martha Benjamin led the charge both recording double-doubles. Johnson had 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Benjamin scored 17 points and had 16 rebounds. Katie Blocker and Telyshia Adams both scored 7 points in the contest. "South Suburban is a talented team," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "We were outmatched." JJC (18-8 overall) travels to N4C conference opponent Harper College on Saturday, February 9, 2008. Game time is 1:00 pm.

The JJC women's basketball team dropped a 64-61 N4C conference decision to Harper College. Martha Benjamin paced the Lady Wolves with 20 points and 16 rebounds. Shantel Johnson scored 17 points and had 13 rebounds. Katie Blocker added 8 points, while Telyshia Adams chipped in with 6 points. "We didn't play our best basketball today," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "We will have to get after it again next week." JJC (18-9 overall, 5-2 N4C) travels to N4C conference opponent Wilbur Wright College on Tuesday, February 12, 2008. Game time is 5:00 pm.

Joliet gets conference win against Wilbur Wright

 

The Joliet Junior College women's basketball team defeated N4C conference opponent Wilbur Wright College by a score of 89-75. Leading the way for the Lady Wolves was sophomore Telyshia Adams with 28 points and 6 assists. Martha Benjamin recorded a double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Sarai Guerrero scored 16 points and dished out 6 assists in the contest. "It was good to see us get another conference victory," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "We have off a week to rest up before the final push of our season." JJC (19-9 overall, 6-2 N4C) hosts N4C conference opponent Triton College on Tuesday, February 19, 2008. Game time is 5:00 pm.

Lady Wolves get by Triton in 85-76 victory

 

The JJC women's basketball team earned another N4C conference victory with a 85-76 win over Triton College. Martha Benjamin had a career high 34 points and 26 rebounds. Katie Blocker scored 21 points including five 3-pointers. This game put her as the JJC women's basketball single season leader in 3-point shots with 88. Telyshia Adams added 10 points and 7 assists, while Sarai Guerrero chipped in with 9 points. "I thought that Martha and Katie really stepped up their games tonight," Head Coach Tony  Giese said. "I think we are putting things together as the playoffs are approaching." JJC (20-9 overall, 7-2 N4C) travels to N4C conference opponent Rock Valley College on Saturday, February 23, 2008. Game time is 1:00 pm.

JJC falls to Rock Valley

 

The Joliet Junior College women's basketball team dropped their last regular season game to N4C conference opponent Rock Valley College by a score of 66-62. Martha Benjamin led the Lady Wolves with 22 points and 19 rebounds. Katie Blocker was good on four 3-pointers for a total of 13 points. Telyshia Adams added 11 points, while Chelsea Crawford chipped in with 7 points. "This was a tough loss," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "Fortunately, we get to play them again next week during the regional." JJC (20-10 overall, 7-3 N4C) opens up regional play as the #3 seed. They take on #2 Rock Valley College on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at tournament host Harper College. Game time is 5:00 pm.

Joliet ends season against Rock Valley

 

The JJC women's basketball season was defeated by Rock Valley College in the opening round of the Region IV tournament by a score of 84-76. Shantel Johnson led the Lady Wolves with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Martha Benjamin finished with another double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds. "We got down at halftime, but made it back and took a late lead with about two minutes left," Head Coach Tony Giese said. "At the end, we just didn't have much left." JJC finishes their season with a 20-11 overall record and a 7-3 N4C conference record.
