Wolves split with Volunteer State for season opener

 

The Joliet Junior College baseball team opened up their season with a split against Volunteer State Community College (TN). In game 1, sophomore Dillon Roark threw a 4-hitter to help the Wolves to a 2-1 victory. JJC received hits from T.J. Stanfield and Brandon Howard to pace the offense. Joliet dropped game 2 to Volunteer State by a 4-2 score. John DeRudder had two hits, while Brett Velon and Shaun Thomas each had one hit in the contest. JJC (1-1 overall) takes on Volunteer State Community College (TN) for another doubleheader on Tuesday, March 11, 2008. Games start at 1:00 pm.

JJC earns another split with Volunteer State

 

The JJC baseball team split with Volunteer State Community College (TN) for the second day in a row. In game 1, the Wolves were defeated by a 7-6 score. Brett Velon had 3 hits including a double and Brandon Howard produced two hits and 3 RBIs. In game 2, Ryan Bethard pitched the win striking out three and walking one. Brandon Howard had three hits and 2 RBIs. Brett Velon had two hits, while Ed Koncel belted a 2-run homer. Shaun Thomas added 4 RBIs. JJC (2-2 overall) travels to Columbia State Community College on Wednesday, March 12, 2008. Game time is 2:00 pm.

Joliet drops a pair to Columbia State

 

The Joliet Junior College baseball team had a hard time against Columbia State Community College (TN) dropping a pair of games 18-2 and 18-8. In game 1, Brett Velon had two hits. In game 2, Brandon Howard had two hits (double) with 2 RBIs. Steve Bayoff hit a 2-run homerun, while Joe Maggio picked up 3 RBIs in the contest. JJC (2-4 overall) has their home opener on Saturday, March 15, 2008 against Carl Sandburg College. Game time is 12:00 pm.

Wolves win twice in home opener

 

The JJC baseball team earned a pair of victories in their home opener against Carl Sandburg College with scores of 8-7 and 7-3. In game 1, Dillon Roark picked up the win going for 7 innings and striking out 8. Brandon Howard paced the offense with two hits including a triple. Shaun Thomas, Brett Velon, Ed Koncel, Joe Maggio, and Ryan Voitik all had one hit each. In game 2, Thomas Alessio earned the win pitching 5 innings. Stephen Styck picked up the save. Offensively, Brandon Howard had two hits (triple). Shaun Thomas, Dillon Roark, and Casey Colbert all doubled for the Wolves. JJC (4-4 overall) hosts Carl Sandburg College on Sunday, March 16, 2008. The Joliet Junior College baseball team picked up a 6-5 victory over Carl Sandburg College. Ryan Bethard pitched 6 solid innings striking out 4 and scattering 5 hits. Ryan Jarka pitched 3 innings in relief with 2 strikeouts to pick up the win. Ed Koncel went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Dillon Roark, Steve Bayoff, and Brett Velon all had two hits each. The JJC baseball team picked up wins against Waubonsee Community College by scores of 10-1 and 8-1. For game 1, Ryan Voitik went 2-for-4 with two doubles and 3 RBIs. Brett Velon, Joe Maggio, and Ed Koncel all picked up two hits. Dillon Roark got the win with 9 strikeouts in 7 innings of work. In game 2, Kevin Barnett picked up the win. Brandon Howard doubled and homered with 2 RBIs. Dillon Roark hit a home run pinch hitting. JJC (7-4 overall) hosts the College of Lake County on Monday, March 24, 2008. Game time is 2:00 pm.

JJC sweeps Lake County in doubleheader

 

The Joliet Junior College baseball team defeated the College of Lake County by scores of 4-0 and 8-3. In game 1, Dillon Roark pitched a no hitter with 15 strikeouts. Ed Koncel and Tyler Thompson both homered for the Wolves. Ryan Voitik had two hits (double). In game 2, Ryan Bethard pitched for 5 innings giving up 4 hits and striking out two. Hector Belen led the offense with three hits followed by Brandon Howard with two hits. Belen and Howard both had 2 RBIs each. JJC (9-4 overall) hosts Olive-Harvey College on Tuesday, March 25, 2008. The JJC baseball team had no trouble with their offense in their 26-3 victory over Olive-Harvey College. Brandon Howard led the offense going 4-for-5, while Ed Koncel was 2-for-3 (HR, 4 RBIs). Hector Belen had three hits, Tyler Thompson two hits, and Joe Maggio two hits. Chris Vidmar added 4 RBIs. JJC (10-4 overall) travel to Black Hawk College on Wednesday, March 26, 2008. Joliet cruises with doubleheader sweep over Black Hawk

 

The Joliet Junior College baseball team defeated Black Hawk College by scores of 11-5 and 5-1. In game 1, Hector Belen doubled and homered for the Wolves picking up 3 RBIs. Shaun Thomas went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs, while Ryan Voitik had two hits. Chris Vidmar, Ed Koncel, and Brandon Howard all hit doubles. Kevin Barnett picked up the win scattering 9 hits and striking out 3. In game 2, T.J. Stanfield led the Wolves going 2-for-3 with a homer and 3 RBIs. Tyler Thompson doubled twice. Ryan Jarka pitched 5 solid innings giving up 5 hits. Stephen Styck pitched 2 hitless innings and striking out 4 to get the victory. The JJC baseball team opened up the North Central Community College Conference with a split against the College of DuPage. In game 1, JJC took control with a 11-2 victory. Sophomore Dillon Roark had 6 strikeouts, giving up 2 hits on 5 innings of work. Casey Colbert, Ryan Voitik, Ed Koncel, and T.J. Stanfield had two hits each. For game 2, the Wolves bats fell silent in a 11-1 loss. Hector Belen had two hits and an RBI. JJC (13-5 overall, 1-1 N4C) hosts N4C conference opponent College of DuPage on Sunday, March 30, 2008. The Joliet Junior College baseball team picked up a pair of victories against N4C conference opponent College of DuPage with scores of 10-0 and 15-4. In game 1, Kevin Barnett struck out 8 and gave up 1 hit in 6 innings to get the win. Ed Koncel, Ryan Voitik, Brandon Howard, and Brett Velon all had two hits. Koncel had 2 RBIs. In game 2, Ryan Jarka worked the mound for 5 innings, striking out 4 and scattering 6 hits. Brandon Howard went 4-for-4 (2B, RBI) and Brett Velon was 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs. The JJC baseball team was defeated by South Suburban College by a score of 10-3. Ed Koncel led the Wolves with two hits and two RBIs. Brandon Howard doubled, while T.J. The Joliet Junior College baseball team defeated Oakton Community College by a score of 14-8. T.J. Stanfield (HR, 2 RBIs), Shaun Thomas (2 RBIs), and Ryan Voitik (2B, 4 RBIs) led the Wolves with three hits each. Hector Belen, Brett Velon, Brandon Howard, and Steve Bayoff all had two hits. Howard homered for one of his two hits, while Ed Koncel had a triple in the contest. Winning pitcher Zach Giertych went for 5 innings and gave up 3 hits. The JJC baseball team picked up two wins in Friday's doubleheader against Illinois Valley Community College. In game 1, the Wolves won 13-3. Brett Velon led Joliet with three hits and 4 RBIs. Ed Koncel had two hits (3B, 2 RBIs), Shaun Thomas doubled twice (4 RBIs), and Brandon Howard, Keon Clayton, and Hector Belen all recorded two hits. Joe Colbert got the win on the mound. In game 2, JJC won by a score of 8-3. Hector Belen, Ed Koncel, and Brandon Howard all had two hits. Brian Shirey picked up the win striking out 6 on four innings of work. Brett Velon and T.J. Stanfield had two hits each. Kevin Barnett took the win going for 6.2 innings, scattering 4 hits, and striking out 8. For game 2, Hector Belen recorded two hits. The JJC baseball team ended their weekend matchup against N4C conference opponent Harper College with a winner. In game 1, the Wolves won by a 2-0 score. Ed Koncel, Ryan Voitik, Brandon Howard, Hector Belen, and Brett Velon all had one hit. Sophomore Dillon Roark remained perfect striking out 12 on 7 innings. Joliet edged out Harper by a 5-4 score in game 2. Ed Koncel and Steve Bayoff had two hits. Bryan Johnson picked up the win for the Wolves, while Stephen Styck got the save. Koncel provided 2 RBIs. Stephen Styck picked up the win in this extra innings match-up. Dillon Roark pitched 8 innings striking out 7, and giving up 6 hits. In game 2, the Wolves pounded out 16 hits. Ryan Voitik (HR, 3 RBIs), Brandon Howard (3 2Bs), and Dillon Roark (2 2Bs) all had three hits each. Ed Koncel (HR, 2B, 3 RBIs), Tyler Thompson (2B), and T.J. Stanfield (HR, 2 RBIs) had two hits each. In game 1, Ed Koncel had three hits including a triple and 2 RBIs. Ryan Voitik, Brandon Howard, and Casey Colbert all had two hits each. Ryan Jarka got the win striking out three in seven innings. In game 2, Brett Velon, Tyler Thompson, and Ryan Voitik had two hits each. Dillon Roark and Hector Belen both doubled in the contest. Stephen Styck got the win on the mound. The JJC baseball team was defeated by a tough South Suburban College by a score of 6-3. Brandon Howard led the offense going 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs. Ryan Voitik, Shaun Thomas, and Brett Velon had two hits each. Dillon Roark suffered his first loss of the season on the mound. He threw 5.2 innings, gave up 7 hits, and struck out 5. Hector Belen and Casey Colbert had two hits each. Bryan Johnson worked the mound for 6 innings and struck out 3. In game 2, the Wolves dropped a 10-6 decision. Belen went 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Ed Koncel went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Hector Belen had two hits and three RBIs. Brandon Howard had two hits in the contest. Ryan Jarka earned the win on 6 innings of work with 5 strikeouts. In game 2, the Wolves squeaked out a 3-2 victory. John Derudder and Brett Velon had two hits each. The JJC baseball team swept Waubonsee Community College in a non-conference doubleheader by scores of 15-2 and 11-1. In game 1, Brandon Howard blasted two homeruns and had 5 RBIs in the contest. Casey Colbert had a solo homerun, while Ryan Voitik and Tyler Thompson both doubled twice. Ed Koncel had 3 hits and 3 RBIs. Winning pitcher Ryan Bethard struck out 4 and gave up only 3 hits. In game 2, Ed Koncel led the Wolves with three hits including a homerun and a triple totaling 4 RBIs. Chris Vidmar homered and had 3 RBIs. The Joliet Junior College baseball team defeated Elgin Community College by a score of 6-1 for the last regular game of the season. Tyler Thompson went 4-for-5 with 3 RBIs. Ryan Voitik and Brandon Howard had two hits each. Dillon Roark got the win striking out 10 on seven innings of work. JJC (41-11 overall) opens up Region IV and District B tournament play against Harper College on Thursday, May 8, 2008. Game time is 10:00 am.

The JJC baseball team defeated Harper College in the opening round of the Region IV Tournament by a score of 10-0. T.J. Stanfield homered, while Tyler Thompson had a triple. Brandon Howard and Hector Belen had two hits each. Ryan Jarka got the win on the mound for the Wolves. He struck out six and gave up only four hits in his six innings of work. The Joliet Junior College baseball team defeated Waubonsee Community College by a 2-1 score to claim the Region IV Championship and the District B Championship. Ryan Voitik led the Wolves with two hits. Dillon Roark blasted a solo homerun, while Brandon Howard, Ed Koncel, and Casey Colbert all doubled. Dillon Roark picked up the win in four innings of relief of starter Bryan Johnson. Both combined for 5 strikeouts. JJC (45-11 overall) takes on Montgomery College-Germantown (MD) in the opening round of the NJCAA Division III World Series in Tyler, Texas on Saturday, May 17, 2008. Game time is 12:00 pm.

The JJC baseball team defeated Montgomery College-Germantown (MD) in the opening round of the NJCAA Division III World Series by a 12-1 score. Hector Belen had three hits including two doubles. Brandon Howard also had three hits that produced 5 RBIs. Ed Koncel and Brett Velon had two hits each. Dillon Roark picked up the win on the mound with 7 strikeouts. JJC (46-11 overall) takes on Gloucester Community College (NJ) on Sunday, May 18, 2008 to continue World Series play. Game time is 4:00 pm.

The Joliet Junior College baseball team was victorious over Gloucester Community College (NJ) by a 14-5 score in the NJCAA Division III World Series. Ed Koncel had a 3 run homerun, while Ryan Voitik added 2 hits including a triple and 4 RBIs. Tyler Thompson, Casey Colbert, and Brandon Howard had two hits each. Ryan Jarka was the winning pitcher working for 5 innings. Stephen Styck got the save striking out four. JJC (47-11 overall) now faces Richland College (TX) in the semifinals on Monday, May 19, 2008. Game time is 7:00 pm.

The JJC baseball team had an amazing comeback to defeat Richland College (TX) by a 10-8 score. Ryan Voitik had three hits including a triple. Brett Velon, T.J. Stanfield, Brandon Howard, and Hector Belen all had two hits each. Dillon Roark had a huge 3 RBI triple to put the Wolves back in the game. Stephen Styck picked up the win working five innings of relief and striking out five. JJC (48-11 overall) will face Gloucester Community College (NJ) in the NJCAA Division III National Championship game on Wednesday, May 21, 2008. Game time is 7:00 pm.

Joliet Junior College wins NJCAA Division III World Series

 

The Joliet Junior College baseball team defeated Gloucester Community College (NJ) by a 9-0 score to become the NJCAA Division III World Series Champions. Hector Belen, Brett Velon, and Tyler Thompson had three hits each. Casey Colbert and Brandon Howard had two hits each. Dillon Roark pitched a complete game striking out nine to finish at 12-1 on the season. Brandon Howard, Brett Velon, Stephen Styck, and Hector Belen were named to the 2008 World Series all tournament team. Dillon Roark was named MVP of the World Series, while Head Coach Wayne L. King, Jr. was named Coach of the Tournament. The Wolves finish their season with a 49-11 overall record breaking the school record for wins for a second year in a row.
