Tony Ray attended JJC from 1978-1980. Tony is a life-long resident of
Joliet, educated in the Joliet public school system, Joliet Junior College
and is a graduate of DeVry Institute of Technology. At the age of 15 Tony
began his radio career as a sports reporter and hosting a Gospel show on
WJRC. In 1978 (when Tony was 18) he began a 20-year radio career at WJOL radio. Tony was known as “The Voice of Joliet” from 1988 to 1998 when he hosted the morning show. During his 20 years at WJOL Tony held the position of program director of WJOL and as operations manager for the parent companies who owned the stations during that time. |

Tony also spent three years at the Chicagoland Gospel Radio Network as
operations manager for the company’s three Gospel stations and hosted the
afternoon gospel show on “Power-106”. He has been the host of many programs and has performed at
many events throughout the Joliet and Chicagoland area. Tony is currently
employed by the Will County State’s Attorney’s office as Victim’s Advocate
working primarily with victims of domestic violence. The accomplished musician, singer, writer and producer is also the Minister of Music at All Nations Church of God in Christ. Previous to this position he performed the same duties for twenty years at Shiloh Baptist Church. Additionally, Tony was adjunct faculty member for six years at Lewis University as music director at the Black Student Union Gospel Choir and served for two years as director of Joliet Central High School New Era Choir. Tony is current President of the Forest Park Community Center (a position he has held for 11 years) providing hope for disadvantaged youth and programs to enrich lives within the community and sits on the Will County State’s Attorneys Community Outreach “Faith Based” Advisory Board. He describes his JJC experience, "Joliet Junior College afforded me a quality education at a reasonable cost and allowed me to work locally in pursuit of my career in broadcasting and music at the same time. I thank God that Joliet Junior College is a part of our community.” |
