Applications for the 2012 class will be available online November 1-30th 2011. If a student chooses to defer or if a student is not admitted into the desired class, the student will need to re-submit a new application to be considered. No application will be kept on file after the start of classes.
Admission Procedure for the Radiologic Technology Program
The Radiologic Technology Program has special admission criteria and limited enrollment. Applications for the Radiologic Technology Program will be accepted by the Admissions Office in November for the following summer semester. Applicants are responsible for ensuring the requirements are met and all necessary documentation is on file. Only complete files will be considered.
1. All students must meet the following pre-requisites prior to application. Please read carefully to ensure all steps have been completed.
· Current application to the college found at www.jjc.edu/admissions.
· High School transcript or GED on file with the Admissions Office verifying completion.
· Completion of (grade of “C” or better) PSYC 101, BIO 250, ENG 101
· COMPASS placement test or previous college credit in MATH 094.(Student must place into MATH 098 or better; if student places in MATH 094, it must be completed before application to the radiologic technology program. MATH 101 and MATH 107 are not accepted in place of MATH 094. MATH 098 is not required.).
· Minimum CUM GPA of 2.75 or above.
All college transcripts (other than JJC) must be evaluated and placed on record prior to submission of your application for the program. (This process can take up to four weeks.) Official college transcripts should be mailed to Joliet Junior College, Academic Credentials Office, 1215 Houbolt Road Joliet, IL 60431-8938.
Students who have met the above Admissions Criteria are free to apply to the Radiologic Technology Program in the month of November to enter the point ranking system. The application can be found only online in the month of November at www.jjc.edu under “Events” and on the “Radiologic Technology” web page.
2. Admissions to the Radiologic Technology Program will be determined by a point ranking system. Each eligible applicant will be given a number for anonymity by the admissions office. Applications will be sent to the Radiologic Technologist Admissions Committee to be scored and ranked by the following criteria:
1. GPA (calculated on courses required for the Radiologic Technology Program only).
2. Number of general education classes completed.
3. Science courses will be weighted heavier.
4. TEAS test scores. Qualified applicants will be required to take the ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills Test (TEAS). The fee for this test will be approximately $40 paid by the applicant. Applicants will be sent an email to their JJC email address with instructions on how to register for the TEAS test and outlining available testing dates.
3. The student may also complete additional general education courses specific to the program. While these courses are not required to be considered for admission, they will add points to the applicants overall score.
· CIS 101 Computer Basics, 1 credit hour
· BIO 100 Medical Terminology, 3 credit hours
· BIO 251 Anatomy and Physiology II, 4 credit hours
· SOC 290 Cultural Diversity in America, 3 credit hours
· SPCH 101 Principles of Speech Communication, 3 credit hours
· PSYC 215 Live Span/Human Development, 3 credit hours
4. Upon admission to the Radiologic Technology program, all students are required to have on file in the Department of Nursing Education, Allied Health, and Emergency Services (If granted admission, the applicant will be informed as to when these requirements must be completed. The applicant does not need to complete these requirements until notified):
1. A current physical examination which includes specified immunization and required laboratory work.
2. Verification of successful completion of CPR: type C (specific to health care practitioners).
3. Current criminal background check and drug screen.
