Counselor FAQ

Are students automatically accepted into Joliet Junior College?

Joliet Junior College maintains an "open door" admissions policy, and applicants are eligible for admission if they are one of the following:

  • A high school graduate or those with a GED certificate or have completed a "home school" course of study.
  • Anyone 18 years of age and older.
  • Transfer students from other colleges and universities who meet one of the above criteria.

Does Joliet Junior College require students to take the ACT test?

No standardized tests are required for admission; however, test information is helpful to college counselors and advisers who assist students with their educational planning. Therefore, students are encouraged to take national college entrance tests such as ACT or SAT.

Does Joliet Junior College require placement testing?

Yes. Joliet Junior College requires that all new full-time students and those students planning on taking a mathematics, English, philosophy, or foreign language course must take the ACT COMPASS Placement Test.

Where can students take the COMPASS placement test?

The COMPASS placement test is offered in the Academic Skills Center, A-1138 at Main Campus, Romeoville Campus Resource Center, Morris Education Campus (Morris) and the City Center Campus. See the ACT COM​PASS Placement Test page for more information.

Does Joliet Junior College have student housing on campus?

Yes. It is offered in close proximity to the college by a private company, Campus Advantage, 1524 Centennial Drive, Joliet, IL. Visit the student housing website or call 815-730-1020.

Can current high school students take college credit courses?

Yes. High school students may take college credit course though the Early Entry Program, Dual Credit or BEST: Business And Education for Successful Transitions Program.

Should students submit a copy of their high school transcript prior to Graduation from high school?

Yes. Students planning to attend Joliet Junior College should submit a copy of their sixth or seventh semester high school transcript. Proof of fulfillment of the geometry prerequisite is required for most 100-level math courses. Most high school students can fulfill this prerequisite requirement from their high school geometry coursework.
