Excellent support services are available free of charge to JJC students. These include:

  • Preliminary and ongoing student counseling through the Counseling Center (Campus Center A-1155), (815) 280-2673.
  • Assistance with reading, writing, studying, note-taking and test-taking skills in the Academic Skills Center (Campus Center A-1138), (815) 280-2284. This service is highly recommended by the veterinary medical technology faculty.

Vet Tech Club

The Vet-Tech Club is an organization formed by the students of the JJC Veterinary Medical Technology program. The club welcomes participation of community members and fellow JJC students in fundraisers for people in need and activities benefiting the well-being of domestic and wild animals.

Scholarships

Hill's Pet Nutrition Scholarship
This award is to be distributed to the candidate during the 2nd year of studies at the beginning of their 4th semester. Student participation and involvement in veterinary technician activities in school or outside of school are the main factors evaluated. Students must write an essay about their involvement in the veterinary technology profession since joining the program. These may include but are not limited to association memberships, publications, CE attendance, Vet Tech Club activities, profession promotion, volunteer work, etc. The essay structure will also be evaluated by grammar, punctuation, etc.

  • Award: $400
  • Deadline: January 31 or until suitable candidate is found

  • Selection: Recipient(s) is chosen by Veterinary Technology faculty thru a point system based on GPA and merit.

Jean and Harold Finley Veterinary Medical Technology Scholarship
Recipient must be a graduate of a high school within community college district 525 . Scholarship may be used for in-district tuition and fees up to a maximum of fifteen (15) hours per academic year, as well as for textbooks.

  • Award: Determined annually
  • Enrollment Status: Sophomore
  • GPA: 2.5 or above
  • Deadline: April 1 or until suitable candidate is found

  • Major: Veterinary Medical Technology
  • Selection: Recipients are chosen by Veterinary Technology faculty.
  • Required Documents: Letter of recommendation from the Veterinarian who supervised the student during their internship, as well as a resume.

Kankakee Valley VMA Scholarship
The recipient must be a second semester, first year student with a B average.

  • Award: Determined annually
  • GPA: B average
  • Deadline: April 1 or until suitable candidate is found

  • Major: Veterinary Medical Technology
  • Selection: Selection of the recipient will be made by the officers of the Kankakee Valley VMA.
  • Required Documents: Applicant must submit an essay (500 word limit) on the following topic: What do you see is your role in veterinary medicine? What ideas do you have to promote veterinary medicine?

Wanda Muntwyler Foundation Scholarship
These scholarships were established by the Wanda Muntwyler Foundation whose sole objective is to further the prevention of cruelty to animals and strengthen the human-animal bond. The scholarships are awarded to third semester Veterinary Medical Technology sophomore students and may be used for tuition, fees and books.

  • Award: Five (5) $500 awards
  • Enrollment Status: Third semester Veterinary Medical Technology sophomore students
  • Deadline: September 1 or until suitable candidate is found
