The Technical department at Joliet Junior College is on the cutting edge of education. With our exceptional curriculum and devoted staff, JJC's Technical Department has become an avenue where students desiring to complete or continue his or her education can fulfill their goals. Options for employment are soaring. The more technical our society becomes, the greater the need for skilled technical people.

You will learn more about each program, the instructors, and required courses for each specific area. Architectural Technology

The JJC Architectural Technology curriculum is designed to enable the student to enter an exciting career in the design and construction industry and offer unlimited job opportunities. The Architecture option focuses on preparing the students to be a productive member of an architectural firm and be able to continue on with their education at a 4+ year university to the point of an advance degree and required work experience required for professional licensing.

Architecture, Engineering, and Construction

The AEC Technology curriculum is designed and continually redesigned to reflect the constant changes in the industry and technology, focusing on current computer applications. This program provides the individual with the education and training necessary for employment in the construction industry and related fields such as architecture and engineering. The AEC Technology student will work cooperatively to complete projects from the concept or initiation of the project to its conclusion in obtaining a building occupancy permit. This program prepares the student to further his construction technology education at several different four-year university programs.

Automotive Service Technology

The nationally recognized automotive technology program at Joliet Junior College provides state-of-the-art training for employment as an automotive service technician and for other automotive-related careers. Students have the opportunity to learn all aspects of automotive mechanical repair including the most advanced electronic and computer system diagnoses. The program has been producing some of the finest and most successful technicians in the region since 1970.

Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD)

Joliet Junior College's Computer Aided Design & Drafting (CADD) Program curriculum provides training on a wide variety of design disciplines. The core curriculum focuses 2D & 3D design using the AutoCAD software application while offering classes in Solid Modeling (Pro-E, SolidWorks, & Inventor), Animation (3D Studio Max), & Architecture (Architectural Desktop), and Microstation V8 XM software applications.

Computer Engineering Technology (CET)

Associates of Applied Science are available in the areas of software development, networking, and microcontroller system design.

Criminal Justice Studies

The Criminal Justice Program gives students a wide variety of career opportunties, including the fields of corrections and human services, courts and law, forensic science, and private security. This program prepares students for both entry level positions as well as prepare students for transfer to a number of senior colleges and universities.

Electrical Automated Systems

Students in the Electrical Automated Systems Technology program will gain hands-on training for entering an exciting, high demand field. Areas covered include industrial controls, circuits, motors, and other electrical systems.

Electronic Engineering

Electronic technicians are in very high demand all over the world. Technicians and engineers cooperatively develop the products that fuel the explosive growth of the electronics marketplace. Graduates of the EET program are prepared to enter the workforce as engineering technicians, field service engineers and application engineers. Graduates may continue their education at colleges and universities and earn an advanced degree.

Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC)

Opportunities for those skilled in the installation and repair of modern refrigeration, air conditioning, and heating equipment are increasing. Employment exists locally, as well as nationally. Work in this area may be found in new construction, industrial maintenance, or business and commercial areas of the heating and refrigeration industry.

Industrial Maintenance

Industrial maintenance is a rapidly changing field. The days of the single-skilled worker are nearing an end. The Industrial Maintenance program was developed between the college and maintenance professionals from the local area to address this trend.

Industrial Welding Technology

The JJC Industrial Welding Technology Program is designed to prepare the student for high demand occupations in the industrial welding sector. Students will have the opportunity to design a course of study to prepare them for occupations in the maintenance, structural or pipe welding (at the certification level) fields.

Integrated Systems

The Integrated Systems Certificate of Completion program helps students understand and integrate the fundamentals of electronics, construction, Computer Aided Drafting and Design, Industrial Maintenance, and Precision Machine Technology.

Law Enforcement

The Law Enforcement program is the only one at JJC designed specifically for in-service officers seeking their education credentials and those intending to pursue careers in policing at the municipal, county, state or federal levels of service. In-service police officers seeking to obtain or improve their formal education, as well as pre-service students intending to seek employment in the field of law enforcement as police officers at the village, municipal, county, state or federal levels, are encouraged to enroll.

Mechanical Production Technology

The Mechanical Production program offers an Associate in Applied Science, a Certificate of Achievement, and four Certificates of Completion, raning in areas of Machine Tool Metalworking, Dimensions Metrology, Blueprint Reading, and Computer Numerical Control. Students entering the field of Mechanical Production can expect a high-tech and in-demand profession.

Nuclear Reactor Technology

This program is designed to provide the license applicant with an adequate background in physics, theory, equipment technology, and procedural and administrative programs necessary to complete the federal licensing examination. Please note: Students must receive prior approval from a participating nuclear facility in order to enroll in this program

Orthotics and Prosthetics Technology

The Orthotics and Prosthetics Technology program provides the foundation to prepare the student to springboard into an O&P career path. Professionals in O&P assess, design, fabricate and fit custom Orthotics and prosthetic devices (orthopedic braces and artificial limbs) to help individuals of all ages. Job opportunities abound with the increasing demand for orthotics and prosthetics professionals.

Precision Machine Technology

This program offers an Associate in Applied Science and provides students an understand of the fundamentals of manucturing - both through hands-on experience and study of theory. Areas of study include precision machining practices, maintenance machining, CNC/CAM/EDM, stamping dies, plastic injection mold making, and CAD.

Process Instrumentation

The Process Control and Instrumentation Technology program educates students in areas of process manufacturing and the control systems and instrumentation associated with these operations. A student may select the process instrumentation technology option that develops skills in the maintenance, installation and control of instruments used in process control.
