Arrival
What better way to get a feel for a career in culinary arts than to spend part of a day in a college culinary arts program? Joliet Junior College is offering a unique opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to experience a broad range of hands-on culinary arts activities. Groups of eight students with a teacher are acceptable but individuals may also make an appointment.
Discussion
Participants start at 7:45 a.m. in the JJC's demonstration kitchen, with a culinary arts instructor, discussing the menu of the day. At 8:20 a.m., participants move to the main kitchen where food for the college's full-service cafeteria is being prepared.
Following this, there is a 30-minute discussion with food service instructors. Then, it's on to lunch (a $3.50 cafeteria lunch ticket is given to each participant). At lunch, participants will be able to ask culinary arts instructors questions about the program and food service topics. The day ends at around 11:30 a.m. with participants discussing their views and sharing opinions. Best of all, it's FREE!
