Susan was born in Chicago and moved to Oak Lawn for primary schooling. She attended a veterinary technician school, one of only five in the nation at that time, in Silver Spring, Maryland, in 1972.
She returned to Illinois and became founding member of the Illinois Association of Veterinary Technicians and Assistants. Susan was president, then a board member for years. She also had a hand in bringing certification of technicians to Illinois.
She has been a technician for over 30 years, with breaks for moves and having children, Dana in 1982 and Kara in 1987. She has worked at Oak Lawn Animal Hospital, Berwyn Veterinary Associates, Elmwood-Grove Animal Hospital, DuPage Animal Hospital, Channahon Animal Hospital, Calumet Veterinary Emergency Clinic and Animal Hospital at New Lenox. Also has done relief work at numerous hospitals.
She has raised Gordon Setters, showed in confirmation and obedience, and Border Terriers in confirmation, obedience, agility and go to ground competitions. In 1989, she bought horse property and now has a buckskin Missouri fox trotter named Honey, and a buckskin appaloosa miniature horse named Hawk.
She adopted Vinnie, through Vet Tech's adoption program in November 2000, Hannah, a Border terrier, Vito, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, and 2 cats, Buster and Pawel.
Her favorite pastime is trail riding, horse camping, and dog training.
