Eileen McKee earned an undergraduate degree in anthropology, specializing in primatology, from ASU. From there, she did research on howler monkeys in Costa Rica and wildlife management in Kenya, Africa. She graduated from Bel-Rea after an internship at Alameda East Hospital, which is the home of Emergency Vets on Animal Planet.
After completing an externship at Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, she became a full-time employee there. After three years, Eileen left to help open the new hospital at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida. During her four years at Disney, she had the opportunity to travel to South Africa to deliver 200 birds to multiple quarantine facilities and spent two months in southeast Asia working with bears.
She moved back to Chicago to teach at JJC after starting a family with her husband, Brian. While teaching is a whole new career for her, she enjoys the opportunity to inspire others. She considers her daughter, Cameron, and son, Jack, to be her inspiration.
