Art Education Majors should contact transfer institutions for certification requirements regarding K-12 and 6-12 certificates.
Art Majors are recommended not to take Art 109, 118 or 215.
General Education Course Requirements - 37 Semester Hours

Communications - 9 Sememester Hours
Social/Behavioral Sciences - 9 Semester Hours (at least 2 areas required)
Humanities/Fine Arts
One course required in humanities, one course required in fine arts, and one additional course from either area
Physical/Life Sciences
(One course from physical sciences and one course from life sciences with at least one being a lab course-Seven hours)

Required Art Core Courses - 13 Semester Hours
These foundation studio art courses and art history survey courses are required for students majoring in art and should be completed as soon as possible. These art core courses typically transfer to four-year institutions in Illinois, especially when part of a completed A.A. degree. Art students are strongly urged to consult with academic advisors to insure smooth transition to transfer institutions.
*Two art history courses can be counted as 6 of the 9 credits in Humanities/ Fine Arts for general education.
Media-Specific Studio Art Courses - 9 Semester Hours
Completion of the art core courses is recommended before enrolling in media-specific studio courses. A portfolio review is usually required for transfer. Art students should select three courses from three different class groups (A,B,C,D).
