- Attended Instructor Productivity training to become familiar with the program Revit, which might replace Architectural Desktop, held at Moraine Valley Community College, July 2008.
- Attended six lectures (Guiding Principles for Creating Green Interiors, Renovation of an Existing LEED Platinum Building, Ecology of Design, Case Study Walton-Bolton Residence, LEED for Dummies, and Two Point Perspective) at the Center for Green Technology and earned a certificate in Interior Design, Spring through the Summer 2008.

- With financial support from the Office of Student Activities and in conjunction with Susan Prokopeak of the LRC, organized public lectures presented by watercolor artist Donald K. Lake of Champaign, IL, on September 29.
- Presented a Brown Bag on the faculty exchange program on September 25.

Debbie Cygnar, Professor, Fashion Merchandising
2007-2008
- Supervised Fashion Merchandising students who submitted two gown entries for the Fashion Group International Career Day. Submissions are made by all colleges and universities which have Fashion Design. Elena Catoiu’s gown was accepted into the finals. The competition was held in November 2007.
- Was featured on the WJOL Morning Show and spoke about the Joliet Junior College Fashion Merchandising program, May 2007.
2006-2007
- Attended the Fashion Design at the Holiday Day in Mart Plaza Apparel/Merchandise Mart, November 10. The day included a keynote speaker, concurrent sessions with professionals within the field of fashion, a Designer Fashion Show, and a Student Competition with four and two-year colleges and universities.
- Was invited to participated in the merchandising and activities to prepare the Victoria Secret Store at the Ridge Mall in Chicago for its holiday and grand opening on October 17.
- Reviewed textbooks for Prentice Hall during 2005-2006.

- Completed authoring the Test Bank to accompany Real Communication by O’Hair and Wiemann, an introductory textbook in Speech Communication. Bedford/St. Martin’s will publish the book in early 2009.

- Presented a recital and a lecture at the University of South Carolina, April 16-19, 2008.
- Presented with a guest artist string quartet a faculty recital of music for saxophone and strings as part of the Musica Viva Series, March 9, 2008.
- Presented a recital and gave a lecture at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. These were part of the United States Navy Band’s 31st International Saxophone Symposium held on January 18 and 19, 2008.
- Served as a judge for the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, held at Lewis University, December 2007.
- Was at the Sichuan Central Conservatory of Music in Chengdu, China for two weeks, where he performed a recital, presented three master classes, taught twenty students, and met with the Sichuan Saxophonists Association, November 2007.
- Presented a lecture and performed at an international saxophone master class at the University of Minnesota on October 26 and 27, 2007.
- Presented a faculty recital at Joliet Junior College, October 21, 2007.
- Wrote an article about the history of the World Saxophone Congress at the request of the Saxophone Association of Thailand, October 2007.
- Wrote a foreword for a new edition of the Rapsodie for orchestra and saxophone and orchestra by Claude Debussy, to be published by MMB Music of St. Louis.
- Received a grant from the JJC Faculty Development Committee to fund a performance and lecture at the University of South Carolina in April 2008.
- Presented a recital and taught at a five-day workshop at the Shell Lake Arts Center in northern Wisconsin, August 2007.
- Wrote pedagogical article on the subject of vibrato was published by Clarinet and Saxophone of Great Britain, July 2007.

- Received a Guest Faculty Residency at Kansas State University where he met with faculty, presented a master class, and worked with individual students, January 22 and 23.
- Presented a lecture and a recital at the U.S. Navy Band 30th International Saxophone Symposium. The event was held at the George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, January 5 and 6.
- Granted renewed status as a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music in Woodwinds by the Music Teachers National Association.
- Judged the Concerto Competition for the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra, October 28.
- Presented a Faculty Recital at Joliet Junior College, October 22.
- Guest Artist at the Sixth Annual International Saxophone Master Classes held at the University of Minnesota, October 12-14.
- Presented a master class and recital at Illinois State University, September 22.
- Is writing a series of pedagogical articles for the Clarinet and Saxophone Society of Great Britain to be published in their magazines. The first article will appear in the 2006 December issue.
- Was invited by the Sichuan Conservatory of Music in Chengdu, China, to present master classes and a series of performances in 2007
- Was a member of the faculty at the Shell Lake Arts Center in northern Wisconsin, presenting master classes, a lecture, and a solo recital, Shell Lake Wisconsin, August 6-11, 2006.
- Lectured and performed as soloist at the Fourteenth World Saxophone Congress, attended by 80 saxophonist from around the world, Ljubjana, Slovenia, July 5-9, 2006.

Barb Pergande, Professor of Interior Design and Interior Design Coordinator
2008-2009
- The Joliet Junior College Interior Design Program was awarded National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) supported status, June 2008. Accredited status is now being sought through NKBA for the Interior Design Program. The NKBA accrediting team will visit Joliet Junior College in spring 2009.
- Completed five courses toward a certificate in Green Technology (Ecology of Design, Warren Bolton Case Study, The Balanced Kitchen-Green Design Guidelines, LEED for Dummies, and LED Lighting). Courses were taken at the Center for Green Technology in Chicago, Summer 2008.
2007-2008
- Gave a presentation on the Joliet Junior College Interior Design program and the Illinois State Licensing for Interior Designers at the Joliet Junior College High School Counselors Breakfast, March 7, 2008.
- Updated the articulation between Joliet Junior College Interior Design program and the Illinois Institute of Art (IIA). Our school has had this IIA articulation for seven years and enables our interior design students to transfer all their interior design courses to IIA and begin their junior year in pursuit of a BA degree in Interior Design. IIA is a Foundation for Interior Design Education and Research accredited program.
- Attended the annual A.S.I.D. Design Summit at the Merchandise Mart to view the JJC Interior Student projects that were on display, February 28, 2008.
- Coordinated with Sal LaPorta, Interior Designer for Carson Pirie Scott, on the design of two rooms for the Cheney Mansion showcase home in Oak Park, IL. They were assisted by interior design students. The event was held from September 9-30, 2007.
2006-2007

Steve Sherrell, Professor of Art
2007-2008
- Is a member of the Collective 33, a co-operative gallery in the Bridgeport neighborhood in Chicago. The Collective was slated to move from its present location to a new one when the Zhou Brothers, an internationally famous artist family, invited them back to their Art Center (Zhou B. Art Center) and built a new space in the center. They opened a member show with 15 new members on April 21. Among the new members are faculty from at least 5 Colleges and 2 high schools, many of which are alumni from JJC.
- An exhibition of paintings for the Imagine Foundation were on display at their site in Jacksonville, IL, February 2008.
- Works were on display at the Old Town Art Center through the Mythopian Group. The exhibit was entitled, Works On Paper, September 9 through October 4, 2007.

- Works entitled, Pure, were on display in the Laura A. Sprague Art, Joliet Junior College, from August 21-September 15, 2006.

Philip Spencer, Associate Professor of Music
2008-2009
- Took 22 students from the JJC Chamber Singers and JJC Chorale to perform at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as part of the Two-Year College Choral Festival held in Washington, D.C., 2008.
- Took his Lutheran Youth Choir of North America, an auditioned choir of 22 high school students from across the United States, on an 11-day concert tour of Germany, singing in seven different cities, including in the largest church in Berlin. Composed a new Evening Prayer for Peace liturgy for use on the tour, July 19-29, 2008.
- Designed, conducted, and played organ for a Hymn Festival of his own hymns and hymn arrangements for the Illinois Chapter, American Choral Directors Association Summer Convention, July 9, 2008.
2007-2008
- Took twenty students from JJC choirs on a five-day performance tour to Washington, D.C. to sing the Faure "Requiem" with other choirs from across the country at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Memorial Day Weekend, May 2008.
- In 2007 was commissioned to compose a choral work, Psalm of Wonder, to honor the Choral Director of Glenbard South High School in Glen Ellyn. The piece was the Finale, sung by all four choirs, of the Spring Concert on March 17, 2008. Mr. Spencer was introduced and asked to speak about the work.
- Attended the 2008 Southwestern Division Convention of the American Choral Directors Association, Kansas City, Missouri, February 2008.
- Presented an organ recital for the Bach Vesper Series at the Grace Lutheran Church in River Forest, IL, October 2007.
- As founding conductor of the Lutheran Youth Choir of North America, toured to Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia with 21 students, July 2007.
- Awarded first prize, Roger Wagner Center for Choral Studies 2007 International Choral Composition, Competition, California State University, held in Los Angeles, July 2007.
2006-2007
- Accompanist for the Fall Convention of the Illinois Chapter, American Choral Directors Association, Wheaton, IL, on October 20.
- Was the guest conductor for the Fifth Annual Men’s Summer Sing, Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Naperville, August 26-27, 2006.
- Performed as jazz pianist and accompanist for a benefit concert for the Hospice of Joliet, at Bicentennial Park, August 20, 2006.
- Served as accompanist and coordinator for Illinois Chapter, American Choral Directors Association summer seminar, Bloomington, IL, July 12-14, 2006
- Formed a new auditioned national choir. (Lutheran Youth Choir of North America.) He took the choir on a 6-day tour to Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Ontario, Canada, Summer 2006.
