Composition Courses

Students enrolling in composition classes are introduced to expository and argumentative writing in English 101 and critical analysis and research in English 102. Students learn necessary skills in rhetorical and mechanical proficiency. Placement is based on COMPASS scores and the successful completion ("C" or better) of the preceding course.

ENG 101 - Rhetoric
This course is designed to teach writing skills necessary for success in college. It is required for students intending to continue in a baccalaureate program. Special emphasis is placed upon summary writing, exposition, and argumentation. Read an English 101 Student Guide to Learning.

ENG 102 - Rhetoric
This course provides continued training and practice in composition. It employs examples of literary genre to help students develop their writing competencies. A 2,500+ word research paper is required. Read an English 102 Student Guide to Learning.
