The Joliet Junior College Sector Leader program began in 1999 as a campus safety effort. Over 70 individuals from three campuses volunteered to assist fellow members of the college community with evacuation, movement to shelter, and basic safety concerns. Most of these individuals participated in specific training such as: First Aid, CPR, A.E.D., and use of fire extinguishers. These volunteers assisted with several major activities and performed admirably.
Improvements in the current program include more training and organization to be certain that all who volunteer will have the tools they need to be effective. We have identified several champions who have experience in working with similar efforts and understand the need for this program at JJC. Pete Comanda, Chief of Campus Police, and Ed Vasil, Campus Safety Coordinator, have stepped forward to lead the revitalized Sector Leader program.
