Global Food Crisis Awareness Events at JJC
Several campus groups have planned upcoming events to raise awareness about the global food crisis.

Events include a food drive through Oct. 23 and a viewing of the World Food Day Teleconference on Oct. 22 at 3:30 p.m. in D-2001, which will detail the impact of the financial crisis on poverty and emerging solutions.

The annual food drive is going on now through Oct. 23 to collect canned/non-perishable food items in conjunction with National Hunger Week. The drive is also collecting other miscellaneous items that are in short supply at local shelters such as deodorant, body wash, diapers, etc.

Donated items can be dropped off on the Main Campus near the Culinary Arts Department on the lower level of the J-Building.

Last year, the drive collected over 2,000 lbs of food. It is coordinated by the Epicurean Club, Competitive Cooking Club, JJC Honors Program, JJC Honors Program, Phi Theta Kappa, JJC Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Department, and the ACF Louis Joliet Chapter, Inc.

In addition, volunteers from the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Department have prepared 450 meals of beef stew, rice pilaf, fresh dinner rolls and cherry and apple crisp to deliver to Morning Star Mission and Daybreak Shelter in Joliet on Oct. 16.
