Old Continued Business

  1. Student representation and outreach
Andy Neill has contacted Dr. Betsy Oudenhoven. OSA was contacted and a student representative was requested. An announcement was made at their recent meeting. One student did contact Andy, he recognized the name, but apparently she was unable to attend the meeting as she is not at the table. An attempt has been made to have student representation on the committee. We will continue to make an effort to reach out.
  2. Professor Salim Diab USF Green Campus, scheduling presentation
Dr. Salim Diab has accepted our invitation to make a presentation to the college community on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. Darlene Boyle checked on the availability of rooms D-2001 or D-2002 and the theatre. A decision needs to be made on the location. The level of promotion will determine space needs. The theatre was determined to be used for presentation. Darlene requested to be notified of items needed by Professor Diab for his presentation. An overview of his presentation was discussed.
  3. Green Team follow-up reports
    1. Communication – Jeff Julian An information clearing house will be set up to gather information from all the green teams. The items will be edited and shared. Members of the Communication Team have been assigned to Green teams and will act as a liaison. The liaisons will work closely with the chairs of each green team on the information submitted.

The representatives for the respective teams are:

      • Buildings & Construction Team: Jeff Julian, Jerry Anderson, Jennifer Giangrego
      • Business Team: Sandy Moll, Angie Ahng
      • Carbon/Utility Team: Pam Dilday, Kelly Rohder
      • Community Leadership: Jennifer Vieley, Griselda Martinez
      • Education:  Laura Egner, Kelly Lapetino
      • Policy & Data: Jake Chase, Raquel Fox

Information that needs to be shared should be forwarded to the Communication Green Team e-mail, which you can access from Outlook contacts under "All Groups". The information will then be reviewed, edited and shared with the college via our Web site and electronic newsletter.

Jacob Chase stated that the web site will be available shortly. The navigation and content page of the web site has been built. The link will be forwarded for the committee to review.

    2. Business Practices Green Team report
Judy Mitchell reported on some of the practices being implemented by the Business Practices Green Team. Purchasing recycled paper for the copy machines will cost more money that purchasing regular paper. This can not be done without board approval. A grant is being sought to provide all employees with cups to be used in the cafeteria in order to reduce waste by not using the paper cups. Pat Van Duyne stated the steps that have been taken by the Facility Services area to reduce utility consumption. Mike Maier reported that the bookstore is selling recyclable items. He is featuring items from Trinity School that will benefit the residents and help the environment. He further stated that the buy back policy will be printed on the receipt and recycling bins have been placed by the register.
    3. SLT response to committee’s recommendations
Jeff Julian stated a message should be forthcoming from Jim Serr regarding shutting down the computers at night. After researching this item, it could save the college approximately $140,000 in savings.

New Business

AQIP Action Project – Andy Neill contacted Roxanne Munch and they prepared a quality action project answering declaration questions. The document states that the projects, as part of AQIP, will submit the form to Institutional Research to chart our progress on various green projects. One of the items that need to be addressed is to acquire examples of what the various green teams are accomplishing such as reducing the use of resources. Andy Neill requested that items be forwarded to him immediately.

Review of Action-items as needed

New Business – Discussion centered on the use of curriculum in sustainability efforts. In addition, funding is in the process for an electric vehicle and in 2009 we will be participating in California in this project. In addition, by 2010 we would like to have high schools participate and have an electric car race throughout the campus.

There being no other new business, Richard Rivera moved for adjournment. Pat Van Duyne made the motion and Karen Randolph seconded. Meeting adjourned at 3:45 p.m.

The next meeting is scheduled for April 2, 2008 at 3:00 p.m.
