Items Discussed
- Jason presented changes made to the floor plan since the Building and Grounds Committee meeting (7-29-08). Lisa attended the meeting on behalf of the department.
- Floor plan
- An IT room was added to the plan. This will serve the buildings technology servers in a protected environment.
- An area in the mechanical room was created to house a mop sink and janitorial supplies.
- Minor modifications to the Multipurpose room were made as a result of the reconfiguration of the mechanical room to accommodate items i & ii.
- Jason stated that this floor plan reflected the most efficient use of space for this program.
- Dave stated that the project must be delivered on budget per the Board of Trustees. He challenged the group to look at ways to reduce costs and maintain functionality. Difficult decisions would be required. A few options were discussed:
- Reduce the number of classrooms. Can the Department effectively deliver the program with one classroom? The consensus was that it could, as long as that room was properly equipped.
- Greenhouse space: Can the greenhouses be reduced in size from 12,000 sf to 8,000 sf? The group discussed the space between the greenhouses adding approximately 1,000 sf of additional useable space. Caryn thought that the existing design could be reduced to match the existing greenhouses in size. She brought up that she would be the only person staffing the greenhouses and questioned whether or not she could effectively run a 12,000 sf greenhouse without assistance. The group decided to reduce the number of greenhouses to 2, and bid the third as an alternate.
- The group discussed reducing the number of offices from 2 to 1 and sharing space. Security and safety concerns were expressed. As long as the office was large enough for two people to work, the reduction could work.
(During the discussion, Dave and Pat excused themselves to attend other meetings)
- Jason handed out and briefly presented images of the exterior from the Building and Grounds Meeting.
- Jason said that he would work to reduce the overall footprint (square footage) in light of the programmatic revisions discussed today.
Respectfully Submitted,
Jason Lembke, AIA
