Items Discussed
- Dave reviewed the "Construction Process" powerpoint presentation that he shared with the SLT on May 7th.
- Phase I of the College Master Plan implementation will include the new Campus Center, new Facilities Services Building, new Greenhouse Facility, Building J Renovations and the existing Temporary Buildings Demolition and related site work.
- The new JJC Dean of Enrollment Management, Susan Paddock, will begin at the college on June 16th.
- Jeff will document these weekly Campus Center programming meetings.
- Jeff indicated that the programming mindset for the new Campus Center should comprise an understanding of existing operations within the context of a new "one-stop" facility at the new "front door" to the campus.
- Jeff distributed the Master Plan Part 1 Report – Appendix 1: Space Needs Worksheets (dated 4-18-07) for the Student Development spaces only. These worksheets will be used as a starting point for the departmental program input next week.
- Operational flow was discussed. Jeff would like to begin discussions next week with each department to analyze and understand the various sequences of operational flow within Student Development. Flow diagrams need to be developed for the Design Team's use in the Schematic Design Phase.
- The one-stop model was discussed. Jeff indicated that the really successful ones take advantage of Shared Spaces, Flexible Spaces, Crosstraining and Online Opportunities.
- While the architectural programming is beginning with just the Student Development spaces, the one-stop model will also take into consideration adjacencies and integration with the Library, Administration, Bookstore, Cafeteria and Student Life spaces. Bubble diagrams and Stacking Diagrams will eventually be developed for the Design Team's use in the Schematic Design Phase.
- The following institutions were mentioned for potential site visits to tour other completed student center facilities: DePaul, IIT, Northeastern, McHenry County College, Johnson County CC, Illinois Benedictine and UIC.
- Jeff suggested that the individual Student Development department meetings start next Thursday morning, May 15th.
- Next Campus Center meeting: Thursday, May 15th, at 1:30 p.m.
- Meeting adjourned: 4:00 p.m.
