Class of 2002
Susan Mejia was born and raised in Joliet, IL, now resides in Minooka, IL. She attended St. Joseph School in Joliet from K-8 and graduated from Providence Catholic High School. Susan enrolled at JJC in 1996 and became a student worker. She enlisted in the U.S. Army during her first year of college. Susan returned on a part time basis as an employee and student to complete her associates degree. She transferred to Governors State University in University Park where she will be earning a bachelor's in interdisciplinary studies with a minor in Communications and Psychology in August of 2009.
In 2009, Susan began her graduate work in Communications at GSU. She is currently a Staff Sergeant in U.S. Army Reserves. She is also a board member for the Custer Association and actively volunteers for numerous military events and programs. She also stays busy with her three daughters and two stepsons.
Susan would like to foster current students into becoming alumni. Her two favorite sayings are “Joliet Junior College is YOUR community college” and “Be All You Can Be”. JJC can help you be all you can be, if not they can help you get there. She has had a long history at JJC as student, employee and alumni, participating as a board member of this association is her way of giving back to JJC.
