Susan H. Wood Hall of Fame Award Plaque 

This award was established to recognize a non-alumna/alumnus of Joliet Junior College who is a current or former faculty member, administrator or friend who has served Joliet Junior College in an exceptional way.

Selection Criteria

  • Nomination required.
  • Individual cannot be an alumna/alumnus of Joliet Junior College.
  • Must be a current or former faculty member, administrator or friend.
  • Must have served Joliet Junior College in an exceptional way.
  • Must be active in professional and community organizations.
  • Must be a dedicated, caring, compassionate and accomplished professional.

How to Nominate

To nominate an individual for the Susan H. Wood Hall of Fame Award, please fill out the online recipient's nomination form. This form must be submitted by March 1, 2014.

2013 Susan H. Wood Hall of Fame Award Recipient

Professor Emeritus Paul Lester enjoyed a teaching career at JJC that spanned from 1946 to 1980. Prior to teaching at JJC, he taught music at Joliet Township High School. During that time he became known in the are for operetta productions and appearances at the Rialto Theatre, among other performances. In 1964 he transitioned to a career as a professor of history and social science at JJC. He enjoyed seeing some of his former students grow and mature on campus. While at JJC Lester also served as a student advisor.

Lester is honorary director of the Joliet Township High School Choir Alumni Association, and has worked with numerous organizations, including the Joliet Area Historical Society (a position he has held since 1982), Joliet Federation of Musicians Local 37 and the American Federation of Musicians.

Paul and his wife Katherine have three children, Paula Lester, Carolyn Lester and Nancy Sitton. He enjoys gardening, and isa Midwest test rose grower for Jackson Perkins.
