Top Ten Job Hunting Strategies

1. Preparation is key in any economy! Work hard and be organized.

2. Know YOU! Evaluate your skills and qualifications and be able to articulate them on your resume and in an interview.

3. Update your resume!  Take a serious look at your resume.  It should target your skills and qualifications to the specific job where you are applying.

4. Practice, practice, practice your interviewing skills.  Sell yourself.  Be confident in your experiences and abilities.

5. Be proactive.  Let everyone know you are looking for a job.  Give them a copy of your resume.  Join job clubs, volunteer, develop skills while making contacts.

6. Be open to new opportunities.  Focus on your skills and abilities to determine other opportunities outside your current experience.

7. Read the job description thoroughly and research the organization to see if this job is a good fit for your qualifications.

8. Think long-term.  Even if the money is not there, the most important thing is to find a job that will help you move in the right direction for your career.

9. Stay positive.  Job hunting takes time (Equate it to working full-time).  Don’t let rejection get you down – it just wasn’t the right job for you.

10. Show enthusiasm for the position.  Let the interviewer know you are interested in the job.  Don’t forget the follow-up thank you letter.
