Constitution

ARTICLE I – Name

The name of this organization shall be the Joliet Junior College Student Government (JJCSG).


ARTICLE II – Purpose

 Section 1.        To provide an opportunity for student leadership, education, and a vehicle through which the Student Government members may maintain sound communication with state leaders, administration, faculty, staff and the student body.

 Section 2.        To gather and represent the opinions, rights, interests, and concerns of the student body at Joliet Junior College.

 Section 3.        To promote student awareness of the core values of Joliet Junior College which are: Respect, Integrity, Collaboration, Humor and Well-being, Innovation and Quality.

 Section 4.        To assist in on-campus activities geared toward the student body of Joliet Junior College and to be aware of and sensitive to the diversity* represented by the student body as a whole while developing programming.

*Diversity includes but is not limited to culture, ethnicity, race, socioeconomics, age, gender, religion and sexual orientation.

 Section 5.        To participate in the recommendations of proper allocations and expenditures of funds provided to the JJC Student Government by student activity fees.

ARTICLE III – Membership

 Section 1.        The JJCSG will consist of students from currently enrolled credit courses with new members being inducted as positions are available. This group will nominate and internally elect the Executive Board in August.

 Section 2.        New members will complete the application process of JJCSG and be interviewed by two members of JJCSG and an advisor. This group will then make a recommendation to JJCSG as a whole regarding qualification for membership.

 Section 3.        Executive Board members will be internally nominated and elected by the first full meeting in August.  The exception to this is the Student Trustee and CCC Representative positions. The election process of representatives consists of: posting the vacant positions for a minimum of one week in the Student Government office and on the posting boards of the Office of Student Activities, having applicants complete the application, orientation, and interview process and attend the meeting of the JJCSG at which voting for the position will take place.

 The Executive Board will consist of 5 members:

President

Vice President

Secretary

Treasurer

Public Relations Officer


 

Representatives will consist of 16 members:

Centennial Commons Representative

Collegiate Club Council Representative

Extended Campuses Representative

Diversity Representative

Student Trustee

Eleven (11) Representatives at large

 Section 4.             All members of JJCSG will be recognized as voting members, and all voting members shall be expected to maintain a minimum academic standard of a 2.0 GPA (cumulative). Executive Board members shall be expected to maintain a 2.5 GPA (cumulative). Any student government member maintaining less than three (3) credit hours may only hold a Representative at large position. At  the end of each semester, the advisors will verify credit hours and GPA through the internal system at JJC. The advisors will maintain confidentiality of the academic records.

 Section 5.        Failure to maintain the above may result in one probationary semester (summer included) with the possibility of termination or inability to seek re-election for the following year.
Re-establishment of GPA will result in removal of probationary status. GPA status will remain confidential and termination situations prior to the end of the probationary semester will be determined on a case by case basis by the JJCSG advisor(s).

 Section 6.        Probation will be defined as having the inability to seek election to an Executive Board position; also, a voting member on probation will be unable to represent JJC at regional or state meetings of the IBHE-SAC or the ICCB-SAC. During the probationary semester the member must have at least one meeting per month with the JJCSG advisor(s) to inform them of the member’s progress towards improving his or her GPA.  Failure to comply with terms of probation may result in dismissal from Student Government based on the decision of the advisors.

Section 7.         JJCSG members can hold only one (1) Executive Board position. The Student Government is to be representative of the entire student body and as such, no one Student Government member will hold more than one position.

 Section 8.        Executive Board members shall not hold the following    concurrent positions:

 Collegiate Club Council Representative

Student Trustee
